My 06 has about 80k on it now, I'm thinking I should change the fluid soon. How much does it hold, and what does it take? Also I assume it'll be obvious where the drain and fill plugs are at once I'm under there?

6.3 pints is the capacity. So plan on 4 qt bottles.

Drain and fill holes are on the passenger side.

Open the fill plug first, then the drain plug. This way the old fluid drains out smoother. If you don't open the fill plug, the draining will glug and splash more.

I like AMSOIL ATF for the manual 5spd in my 06. I tried the Royal Purple Synchromesh but the AMSOIL seemed to work better.

Ford recommends 3.2 qts for the TR3650 in the 05-10 GT. As for the best/correct type of fluid, there is a lot of info out there.

I spent hours reading, then I decided to call Tremec directly. After speaking with Rob who is a Tremec tech, he recommended a few fluids. They include Mobil 1 ATF, GM or Pennzoil syncromesh, or plain dex/merc transmission fluid.

I previously tried the dex/merc, but I wasn't happy with the shift quality. Then, I switched to the Pennzoil syncromesh. I'll never use anything else now. It really made an improvement.

Also, Pennzoil and GM syncromesh are the same, except for the GM markup.

I looked into this also and came up with two top candidates: Mobil 1 and Amsoil sythetic ATF

I tried the Mobil 1 and did not notice any difference ; still quite stiff at cold temperatures

Then I tried the Amsoil and it does seem to shift a little better, but no miracles. I will know more this winter when it gets cold, hopefully it won't be so stiff when cold.

If you use the Amsoil, make sure you get the kind with the red label, apparently the blue label stuff has sulphur in it which eats away at the synchros in the tranny over time.

Another good reason to always open fill plug first is just in case there is a problem getting the fill plug out.

Yes check the Fill Plug first. I chuckled when I read this because I know someone this happen to. I went over and we soaked it with some P.B Blaster. It was a P.I.T.A but we got it.
