I have a 65 mustang convertible, auto trans, 6 cyl, 200 cc. I plan to do some restoration...transmission, chrome/stainless moldings, interior, dash, etc. I am looking for a good experienced restorer in the Houston, TX area. Please email if you know someone dependable and reasonably priced. Thanks, Tom Hudgins:)

Welcome to the site!!
I have one too

I also have a 65 Mustang convertible. Mine is a 289 with automatic and has the GT Tribute package. I have had it about 2 weeks and have already replaced the entire suspension, convert brakes to power disc up front and all new drum brakes on the back. I hope in the next few weeks to pull the engine and go completely through it as well. Anyway, I am in the Houston area as well (Sugar Land). If you find that affordable Mustang restorer please let me know. I saw one listed up west of Humble on the internet but would prefer one closer to me.

Are you familiar with John's Mustang?

Good luck

I am in Sugar land also. I have a 1966 C code coupe that I have been working on. I have done a lot of the same things you have, suspension, brakes, etc.

I am assuming that you are talking about a body and paint guy? If so, I may have a guy that you might be interested in. I am giving him a shot with my 66. He has had the car since late December and I have looked over his shoulder along the way. I asked him to properly gap all the fenders door, prep and paint. So far I have been very impressed with his quality control, accessibility, and schedule. I have been out of town for a while and am scheduled to pick the car up Monday. I will report back then and of course, you are more than welcome to look her over if you like.

Yes, please let me know how it goes and if reasonable! I would like to see yours as well.

I got the car back Monday evening. I am pleased with the outcome. He did a very good job on the paint and body. I had him adjust all the gaps and get the doors correctly aligned (I replaced a broken hinge on each and they were close but not perfect). He also repaired a rusted drip rail on the passenger side.
I had a couple of estimates that were in the 10K range. He was around half of that. Here are some pics from the shop. I will have some better ones as soon as the weather clears up.

I would like to come see it one day if you don't mind. Have you heard anything about a Mustang shop in Katy / Houston (they are at Hwy 8 and Interstate 10) called Mustang Specialist? They have all parts, do repairs, paint, full restorations, etc. I saw them in Craig's List under auto parts. I called them today and he gave me a pretty decent price for pulling, over hauling and reinstalling my 289.

Thanks, I am looking to upgrade to power disc brakes and steering. I am familiar with John's Mustang. Good source. Mine is a inline 6 cyl. Did you do the conversion yourself?
Actually, I need to replace/refurbish chrome, stainless trim, weatherstripping, windshield, etc.

Hello. :) If you are talking about Ford Specialties, a place owned by a fellow named James Lanford, with an address on Upland, they do very good work. They don't paint cars there, but, anything else you want, they are more than capable of doing. Mr. Lanford has been doing this type of work for quite a while. :)

And, just for the sake of full disclosure, :gringreen I do not work there, I have never worked there in the past, I do not own part of the company, nor does any friend or relative of mine. :)

I have not used that shop. I have done most of the work myself (except paint, body, AC charge, wheels and alignment). It has been a family project with my wife, two daughters and future son in law all pitching in.
Here are a couple of better pictures.

The shop I used for the paint and body is in Stafford and is a single owner small shop. His name is Nick and his phone is 713-392-4125.

Same disclaimer as Veronica. I don't own any of the shop or work for it in any way. Nor do I know anyone who does.

I wish I could say I did it all but I didn't. My friends, the Johnsons, Nobby and Jason (father and son), own Hi Tech Automotive in Richmond and Jason did most of the work. When it comes to brakes, that is a major safety factor when my family rides in the car so I went to the professional to make sure they were done right.

I understand that. I guess it is all about what you are comfortable doing. I have some history with auto mechanic stuff and I have found this site and the internet invaluable is learning specifics about mustangs. I just finished putting new rear leaf springs in yesterday (that was a chore) and I have the car pretty much where I want her now mechanically. I am still fighting a few electrical gremlins. I don't suppose I will ever be through tinkering though :)
