check the wiring to the coil, it sounds like its losing its primary voltage. Either the ignition switch wont stay in the "run" position, or the coil is wiring is faulty.
65 mustang shuts off
ok me and my cousin are working on his 64 1/2 289 stang and when we turn the ignition it will crak and start then die but if we hot wire it it stays on?? any suggestions?

Losing voltage somewhere. Yup i agree , looks like a problem with wiring to coil or bad coil
check voltage at the coil while cranking and when it dies, does the voltage cut out when the motor dies?
