Jack up the frame of the car on the side you are working on and put it on a jack stand, then the trick here is to jack up the wheel or lower control arm so the spring on the upper arm gets compressed more, then place a 2x4 about 12 to 16" long between the upper arm and the frame, then lower the lower arm back down but don't go so far as to make it loose from the jack, remove the wheel, and loosen the big nut on the spindle to where it is almost off, then lower the jack some more to where the jack is loose so there is some weight on the ball joint, then tap the spindle where the ball joint goes thru, with a small hammer, you don't need to kill it, just make it vibrate and it should pop loose, then jack it back up a little to hold the weight, and take out the four bolts in the upper ball joint, and then lower the jack a little more and it should clear the upper control arm and you should be able to pull it out, replace it and torque the new to the proper specs. Be careful and not let the spindle fall out and damage the brake line, it's not that hard to hold onto. Good Luck.
