Hello,

today i removed the starter from my car because i believe the starter is soaking heat and prevents me from having a easy start when the engine is hot.
I would like to replace it with a high tork starter, just something that has more power then the standard starter and is not that prone to overheating due to heat soaking.

Can someone maybe recommend a starter i could use?
Up to $200 is fine.

Its a 1968 289 with automatic.

Thank you

On a basically stock engine and if you don't have headers, the stock starter is more than enough, things that will cause it hard to start is the initial ignition timing should be 6 btc (unless you have the dual diaphragm distributor), pitted points (if they are, then replace them with a good set with a phenolic (brown) rubbing block or use a point file or some 400 grit silicon carbide sandpaper to clean them up, is your engine running hot, and lastly a bad starter. My 2 cts. Good luck.
