69 Mustang 351W edelbrock problem

606 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Print Dad
Have an eldelbrock 1406 4 barrel on my Mach1 4 speed. Cannot get the throttle linkage (cable) to return all the way every time. Often sticks at 10,000+rpm at a stop. After market 4V throttle linkage bracket and a new throttle cable. Everything is clear and no apparent hang ups. Hate to stomp on the throttle every time I stop to get it to spring back all the way. Anyone else have this problem or a fix?

Hello Opus,
As usual Rex is right on - -this is a serious condition
I would like to offer a few thoughts as well/
You need to narrow down the cause which I know you are trying to do. But what I am saying is take the linkage off the carb and see if
you can work the carb by hand.
It sure sounds as though one of the throttle plates could be sticking.
This could be caused by a spacer or the carb not sitting quite right
on the intake.
As mentioned - I would take off the linkage and work the carb by hand. see if you feel any type of bind. If you do - -great then
I would loosen the 4 bolts holding the carb and see if you can
move the carb just a little and retry the movement for binding
What this sounds like is possibly an issue with a spacer under the carb.

If all seems good - then we know the issue is with the linkage
See if you can check the cable for a kink, binding spot etc

It sure may help if you could post a picture of your set up

Good Luck - -Print Dad
