8.8" rear end making a clunk?

I've notice that now when I back out of my garage and put it in 1st. when I start to give it gas and release the clutch I hear like a CLUNK! from the rear. ONLY at TAKE OFF!

Then! yesterday I was in the turning lane to turn left; it was taking too long so I turned the wheel all the way right, started to move and It felt like it was chattering? I really cant explain it exactly. sorry. like it knocked till I straightened out.

But any ideas? is my diff. going out? it sounds like maybe the u-joints but I'm pretty sure its the diff.

Chattering turning would be the clutches in the diff most likely but the clunking is most likely the u joints. You need to investigate:bigthumbsup

ok! so the chattering part would be... ok? cuz it is a Posi unit.. and how would I go about checking the u-joints
Chattering I guess could be the u joints too but youll not know til you swap. If you are clunking your u joints should be missing the cap somewhere. Grab the shaft and try to shake, you should not be able to move it. Also check the bolts for tight.
My friend just had the same thing happening in his ranger a clunk only when he would come to a complete stop and then take off again. It ended up that he blew out his rear not to long after. I hope thats not the case.
Well by checking the u joint and the bolts back there is free and one more thing you can take off the list of things that might be wrong. The next step would be taking off the diff cover and see a mess in there and be ready to fix it up.
What kind of rear is it? A stock spring-and-clutches traction lok or a cone type differential like Auburn or Eaton?
Figuring out if it actually is a posi unit is your first step. And identifying if it is an 8.8 or not. You need to take the cover off and see what's going on, it's not a real difficult process, just make sure you unbolt the bottom first to let it all drain, then take the top bolts out. Does it have after market of different gears? Spin the wheels around once the cars in the air and make sure the ring and pinion join perfectly straight up and down. My car clunks and its because one of the gears is not straight. When i rotate my wheels the ring gear looks like it tilts to the side. If it comes that you have to rebuild the rear, theres a sticky on there on how to do it :bigthumbsup

Reach under the car, grab the driveshaft and pull it back and forth. It shouldn't have any play in it. But if it does have play in it, then the U-joints are bad. From what you're describing I would start there. They probably need replaced anyways, even if that isn't the actual problem...
wow thanks guys!

well it is a 8.8 posi, I've put it on a lift before and the both wheels spin in the same direction. once I had it up there, I checked for gear ratio; when you mark a tire, and count driveshaft spin. 3:73s

but that was a long time ago when it didn't make any noises. what would be signs of a blown rear end?

I have time now, so I'm going to go out there right now to check.. so I'll be back!! lol
Pull the cover you will see broke if something is
