86 camshaft alignment question.

The timing belt broke on my son's 86 2.3 Mustang. The timing pointer that you align the timing mark on the camshaft sprocket with is missing. Is there any other thing that I can use to align the mark with? Hoping there is away of doing this without having to removing the valve cover to actually see the position of the valves.

Got the answer from another Mustang forum and it works! What you do is take a piece of string and hold one end on the center of the Cam Sprocket bolt and hold the other end on the center of the distributor Sprocket bolt. The timing mark on the Cam Sprocket is in the right position when it aligns up with the string.
