87 5.0 GT Hatch without Lock Cylinder?

948 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  ALMOST STK
My 87 GT does not have a lock cylinder in on the back hatch. The previous owner said it rattled, so they closed it, locked it, and removed the lock cylinder so they wouldn't have to mess with it.

I can't do anything about the foolishness of the previous owner, it just is what it is. Is there a way I can get that to open before I get the lock cylinder? I want to get easy access to the inside so I can sort some interior things out. When I get the lock cylinder, the hatch needs to be open for me to install it, right?

Can't you pop the hatch open from the button in the glove box?
The glove box button doesn't work. However, after messing with it a little today, a carefully placing a long flathead screwdriver will let me turn the latch and open the hatch in the mean time.

Yes you'll need to have the hatch open to install the new lock.
This will make it easy for you to RR the lock
