I have a mostly stock 1987 GT 302 and was in the market to put heads on it. I have read that AFR heads are the way to go.

Which AFR heads are the best to get and why?

AFR 165 AFR for a stock 302.
WIth the AFR 185s you have Piston to Valve clearance issues with the larger 2.02 valves.
The 165s have 1.94 valves.

Pedestal mount is for what the stock heads have. You can get 1.7 or 1.6 Roller Rockers in pedestal or stud form.

I would recommend the stud for a few reason:
1-substantially easier to adjust to spec when installing
2- 90% of aftermarket heads use them so if you ever got a bigger set of heads you could re-use the rockers.

There's nothing really wrong with pedestal ones though.

The 58cc chamber will give you a bit higher compression so you'll have a bit more power from it as well.
