Well, I had my old 98 Hyundai Accent for six years without so much as a parking ticket, let alone an accident. Finally decide to buy my first new car, a race-red v6 Mustang 6MT.

890 miles later this happens...

Luckily the other driver was insured, but it still sucks that my new car has already been involved in an accident :(

Nothing mechanical at all seems to have been involved (the underside of the car looks brand new, just the rear panel, bumper, and trunk) so after the aesthetics get fixed I'm sure it'll look and feel brand new. The dealership I purchased the car from also runs an auto body shop, so I'll likely have them do the repairs with all new parts.

no, FL is "no fault" but if it can be clearly established who is at fault you get your deductible back...I did when someone ran a red light and hit me.

Mine just got nailed in the rear last week, also at a red light, with a little over 1,000 miles on it. The guy in the POS S10 that bumped me was like, it's just minor can we let it go? Hahaha no effin way. I was so mad. Looks like I picked the wrong day to quit smoking cigs.... so mad. lol

all dependent on how the LEO writes the accident report. most times in NJ they don't assign fault, unless it's REALLY bad.

The officers made it very clear that the other driver was at-fault (probably since it really caved the back of my car in good), so I shouldn't have to worry about a deductible. Even if I do, the other guy seemed really cool (an idiot, but cool none the less) - was a suit wearing middle aged guy driving a GMC Denali. I would bet good money that if I had to pay my $500 deductible he would reimburse me. He felt pretty terrible about the whole thing.

Same color as mine and seeing that gives me a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. :sadcry: I hope they fix it right.

I got rear ended in my truck a couple of years back, got it fixed and didn't think anything more about it... until the dealership saw it on the car fax when I traded it in.

At least he wasn't an a#$hole about it. Accidents happen. Makes it worse when it's something you love. I washed and detailed my car the other week and took it to the gas station. I pulled up to the pump as the guy ahead of me pulled out to leave. he had a bad angle to get out on the road, so he started backing up to adjust his position. He never looked back. Good thing I hadn't shut of my car yet. I was laying on the horn and backing up at the same time. Yes, I looked before backing. He finally stopped and then looked back. Hot day, his windows were up and blue hairs with him in passenger and back seat. The whole time I was thinking,"I can't believe he's gonna hit me." Did you see it coming and what was he doing, texting?

Same here, but the insurance company will do an investigation...it took awhile, but I got every out of pocket penny back

Someone decided to merge into me as I was making a left turn off a freeway(it was a double left, I was in the outside lane) with right around 400 miles on the clock. Thankfully it was pretty minor, but still. I had it a month and a half, come on people =\

Make sure your insurance company pays you for the value depreciation you suffered from having the car in an accident, the term is 'diminished value'. Here's a link to an article about it - Your car will never be the same after an accident - MSN Money

Not sure if where NJ stands on it, you'll have to do some digging but this will give you the general outline.

Sorry to hear that man. We all hate paying those insurance bills until something like this happens right? I just hope if something like this happened to me that I could keep my cool and not punch the other person in the face.

I've been wondering about this. Now that we have carfax to track these things, even a perfectly innocent victim of a rear end collision suffers some unknow depreciation that can only be determined at a future date when the car is sold. I'd seriously consider selling the car immediately, and trying to get the insurance company to make me whole. Probably would turn into an uphill battle, but at least there would be some present day evidence to support the depreciation claim.

Actually yea, I saw him coming. He just looked zoned out heading back to work after lunch to be honest. Right before he hit me you could see that look of "Awwww ****, I'm an idiot" race across his face. He wasn't on a phone or texting though, just not paying enough attention.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone! I'll post some post-repair pictures after I get the work done.

We have too many of the double turns in this town, especially the two-lane turns that merge into three and five lane traffic. What's the first thing everyone does? Cross lanes in the middle of the turn without any consideration as to whether someone is in the lane beside them. Lots of accidents during snow bird season, but you can still get hit year-round. I even had one woman flip me off for being in the outer most right turn lane next to her, because she tried to cross over on top of me. I didn't have time to honk. Thankfully she looked over and saw me before we collided. But to flip me off for legally being where I had a right to be, just because she wanted to pull an illegal move??? GADS! Some people's children...
