The 2004-2009 Mazda3 engine has many aftermarket parts and many possibilities for re-working 2.3 Mustang engine apparently doesn't have. Can a 2.3L Mazda3 or Mazda 2.3L Pickup engine be used as a replacement engine for a 1993 Mustang 2.3L engine?

it depends on how the motor mounts are on the mazda motor, and fabin your own is hard to do and if u dont get it true right ull have major problem in the future for ur drive train. Im sure its possible to do just alot of fabrication. If u got the time and money anything is possible

You can put any kind of engine you want into any kind of car you want. The only thing is how much work it is going to be to get it in and get the rest of the drivetrain to work with it. There are many mazda truck engines that will bolt up and maybe even use the same EEC, but they were in the 90's. So no, this is not a direct replacement. Even if you only used the block, the bell, intake, and exhuast probably won't bolt up. And then there's the wiring. If you took everything out of mazda including the wiring, EEC and tranny, you could probably make it work somehow. But why?

You know what other engine has a great aftermarket? The 2.3L Turbo! And it will put out way more than any new N/A 4 banger.
