on my 93 mustang after running for a while when i come to a stop for about 10 seconds my car have smoke coming thru the shifter and underneath the car i was told that i need to replace the valve cover gasket and i was just wondering is that correct before i buy one and still have the same problems

Yes and no....if the valve cover is leaking and causing oil to drip on the engine or exhaust then yes you will need to replace it. Before you by a new gasket look around the engine and underneath the car to see if maybe the leak is coming from some other part of the engine.

If you can verify that it is the valve cover gasket that is leaking, clean the area, then go through and retorque the bolts on the valve cover to the correct specs. Maybe they have just become loose. Be sure to torque them to the correct specs as over torquing usually leads to more leaks. If that does not work, then get a new gasket.
