i just purchased a 95 mustang gt coupe v8 5.0L i dont know much about these cars but in the past few days i've learned more about cars in general then ive known my whole life. i still have alot to learn not to get off subject but anyway . my problem is pretty much when i punch the gas i get high rpm readings from my gauges but the car isn't going anywhere.. it stalls then finally catches up . ive talked to a few people but have not mentioned the problem they seem to think i have some sort of exahust leak i was told this was not a huge problem. also i drove it for about 8 mins and we pulled into the drive way and it just died out. engine doesnt shake much. nothings over heating that i know off ? any help is appreciated. thanks

forgot to mention that to the best of my knowledge everything is pretty much stock.
Stick or auto?
I was gonna say: Sounds like it needs a full tuneup, but yeah, it could be your transmission slipping. Does the engine run normally?
Start with pulling the comptuer codes.

Could very easily be a transmission on the way out. Does it do it all the time? What if you manually put it into gear instead of OD?
thanks for the info. yeah the engine runs normal nothing i can tell wrong with it other then the stall issue...i went to a mechanic who works from home and he seems to think there are no codes for my car... guess im gona have to spend a few bucks to get a pro to work on it...it'll be worth it...i really hope its the tuneup that it needs. thanks again guys.
If its the tranny you might not get any codes. I can tell you from experiance 'cause I went through 2 of them and not once did they ever pull any codes. The first time it was alot of slipping from 1 to 2 and OD that went, the second time it was slipping again with alot of hunting between gears.
this saturday ill take it to the westcoast shop. i'll have them check my spark plugs and see if they spot anything with my trans while there at it they can do the tune-up.
