Could be 4 things.

Head Gaskets

MAF needs to be sprayed with computer contact cleaner

Idle air control

Fuel Filter.

if the temp is good could it still be head gaskets
yeah, if it's a small leak.

My 98's head gasket went out, and the only clue was hard starting from sparkplugs and a faint whiff of antifreeze.

i thought of that but i was looking for something different first hand advice thats why I am at this site
I don't have enough info.

Are you the 1st owner?

do you have receipts as to whether whoever owned the car kept up with the maintenance schedule?

If not, the only way to go, is to do all the maintenance . . . especially at 120,000 miles.

FLush the radiator, tranny fluid, change the fuel filter, change the air filter, clean the MAF sensor, change the oil, the differential fluid, check / change all belts and hoses, replace brake fluid, power steering fluid, check AC, etc.

Just run through all of it.
