97 mustang cobra, gearshift lever appears to be in 4th gear, but the xsmn a t45 is in neutral. The shift lever wont move. visual inspection of clutch appears normal, cable not broken, throwout moves with clutch pedal, no abnormal coloring or smell. Any help on what to do or look for appreciated.

a t45 that old is surely due to be rebuilt...it had it's issues from the getgo, eventually it fails and it's probably where you are

I recently acquired my 01 cobra...what a car! Anyways, I did a sporty 1-2 shift. Have you ever heard the snap of a shear pin? Well, after the snap and upon letting the clutch out, I was still in 1st. The shifter sounded like it would shift, but, would kill the engine if I let the clutch out. Bottom line after disassembly was a broken shift plate. $50 later I was doing the reassembly. We'll see how this goes. I'll be keeping my eye out for something that will update the T45.

the T45 is a great transmission, it's just that newer synchros are now available which cure the 1st generation issues it was engineered with...I paid $600 to get mine redone, it shifts like a dream even with 450hp in front of it..I have a Pro 5.0 shifter and love it

Bruski, thanks for the input, it was indeed a broken roll pin, with a shift plate and a synchro, waiting on the parts, also replacing the clutch. Im sure it will be fine. again thanks.
