i have a 1997 mustang gt with a pi manifold and 4.10 gears. I was wondering how much boost i could run with stock internals with a turbo? i would also want to know what would be the best cheap turbo i could get?

no such thing as "cheap turbo"...did you know you have to replace the k member? Then all the supporting mods like fuel, tuning, etc?
Expect to spend at least $10,000, you can run 6-8psi with good fuel and tune

on3 performance sells a decent kit for a decent price. Hellion is the best IMO. Also you will only see 400rwhp safely on a stock shortblock. Boost doesnt really predict when you will blow up.

10,000 is a little much on3 kit is about $1500 have been looking threads up on different forums and have heard nothing but good things.. I mean for what your paying!! WHO CARES IF THE RARE CUSTOMER GETS A BAD TURBO!!.. You can buy a turbo for 500-700 and get the piping made up, manifolds to the down pipe, downpipe into the turbo, hot side out to your stock exhaust system.. Intake, boost side into the INTERCOOLER and then to the throttle body... ITS DIRT cheap!!!!

Your responcibile for your own fuel pump, injectors and tune.. The size of pump it calls for and injector size you will not have to increase the size of your fuel lines or fuel rail.. You could to be safe...

But you could increase the bill with on3 and they will take care of that it just wont be 1500 anymore..

$10,000 is not that far off. buy the time you add in all the supporting mods (fuel, suspension, electronics,) add in any extras like a bigger oil pan like MMR type, boost controller. who is doing the work you or a shop? if a shop add all the cost of labor. And a tune On3 is ok If you are on a budget but upgrade the turbo right from the start. and expect to have to modify a lot of piping. All the little stuff adds up fast I own a turbo 04 cobra

I have about 2k into my suspension, if you go hellion then yes it might crawl close to 10k with labor and what not but all the op asked was where can i get a cheap turbo and how much power will my shortblock hold. ON3 is the cheapest option, being its 1500 plus an additional 650 if you want to buy their tubular k member and a arms. Then you get a bigger fuel pump($200ish) and some 39# injectors for $125-$200 off the forums and a tune($400) and a new MAF($380) and bam you got a turbocharger 2v. I would say about $5k tops with labor and parts. Expensive yes, but what mod isnt expensive. I am doing a teksid eaton swap now, but i will just go over 10k with parts/labor/tune. And the bottom end will be forged and the t56 swap is figured into that cost.

Welcome to AFM. One thing you did not mention was how many miles are on your stock setup.
