Hello all, I am new to the forums and fairly new to mustangs, i have had my 98 mustang gt for about 2 years now. I have done some minor work as far as bolt ons go, i have a K&N CAI, 4.11 Gears, SCT Tune, Flowmaster mufflers with a non catted H-pipe, and i believe thats it as far as perfomance mods go..

Anyway to get to my point, i have always been interested in getting a super charger for my car and have saved up enough money to get it..

Was wondering, i dont want to use my motor i have in my car now, so i was thinking of getting a 99' Motor or an 00 Motor' the GT.. was wondering if this would be a direct swap? if not what would i need to change?.. Also, if i get the 99 Motor, when i buy the supercharger am i still getting the supercharger for the 98 motor or the 99 motor?

Also, if you know, i do NOT want a quiet supercharger, so hopefully someone can steer me in the right direction? :smartass:

The 4.6 is the same block used. From 98 to 99-04 GT there are some differences but nothing that will stop you from using it. You can swap it over and still use pretty much everything from it in your 98. If you want the 99-04 COPs' you'll need the wiring and computer and put that in your 98. If not, you can reuse your wiring, computer and plug wires on the 99-04. If you use your 98 computer, i would atleast get a dyno tune for it.

if i were you, i would go with all forged internals. it might even be cheaper to just re-use your stock block and just get a forged rotating assembly (crank, pistons, rods and all the necessary hardware. and if you go with a storker kit then you will get even more horses out of it. plus you can go with a low compression setup ideal for superchargers, plus your internals will be able to handle a whole lot of boost.

on that note most superchargers (except vortech's new SQ series and prochrger's new line) are pretty loud. if you want the low end torque tires spinning all the time kind of power go with kenne bell. if you want high numbers at high rpms and a build up of power go with a centri unit (procharger, vortech, paxton). the horsepower differences are very small from brand to brand. you should go with the company you feel most comfortable with and the power that you want.

Ok thats some good info, any specific info for specific kits that would best suit me.. stop me if i sound stupid but im looking for low end tires spinning quick burst noisy supercharger and i dont wanna spend more than $4,500, not really looking for crazy power just even maybe an extra 100HP would suit me just fine.. I can save money on labor my best friend and father both can do anything to cars my father actually owns several shops.. but hes a chevy man :( but his car is bad ass tho 66 Nova SS 504 big block pro charged things pushing 900 to the wheels..but back to my GT.. any suggestions as to specifics? also, any where i can find a motor? and what would be considered high miles for buying a motor and how much do you think it will cost for the motor.. Sorry for the all the questions but im new and curious and will be able to offer help to any of you also, just with super chargers and motors im not really educated on.. :) Thank you..

is that $4,500 budget for the supercharger and the engine or just the supercharger? if it's for both that's going to be a tough budget.

If you want noisy off the line power, then go with the Kenne Bell SC. A non intercooler kit is going to be around 3800 bucks and the intercooler is closer to 5000 bucks. You can find used ones on ebay and such for cheaper.
For a used engine, shop around ebay and craigslist. When i did my 5.4 swap, i found an 04 on ebay with 10K miles, great condition for 1200 bucks. usually used mustang engines are a dime a dozen.

if 7 grand is your limit i would spend the previously stated $5,000 on the intercooled kenne bell kit, get forged pistions and rods and have your crank re balanced. that way you can safely run 500rwhp if you really wanted to. if you dont want crazy numbers you at least have peace at mind knowing that your engine will never give out on you no matter how hard you push it. the blocks and cranks are good for solid amounts of power, it's the pistons and rods that usually give our first.

Any idea what my transmission is rated for? power wise? its the 5 speed tremec...

good news! just got all the pricing done.. and with a 2003 Mustang GT motor with 20,000 miles on it complete with the ecu is $900, and the kenne bell supercharger is 5000..with the intercooler, so all in all im looking at like 5900+tax so about $6,375.. any real true disadvantages if i decide not to get the intercooler kit? and if i choose not to.. can i always add it on later?

you certainly can always add the intercooler later but trust me, you're much better getting it right off the bat. once you get used to the 6psi non intercooled kit you are going to want more. and the 9psi intercooled kit is going to leave you with plenty of power. it's worth the extra $1200, just trust us on this one.

i'm not sure what transmissions the 98's had (t45 maybe?) but you should be fine as long as you dont have super sticky tires. shock load is what kills transmissions so with all this power you should just spin the tires if you try a hard launch. when you start upgrading the suspension/tires to deal with traction issues, then you should consider rebuilding the tranny. oh and you might want to upgrade the clutch too.

and 900 for a full engine with 20k is quite the bargain! if you can afford it i would buy some nice long tube headers, install them when the engine is out and drop the engine in with them. you'll see some pretty nice gains and the install is a whole lot easier with the engine out of the car.

was considering getting long tube headers..was talking to my father about putting them on and he said that it requires welding.. how true is this? and yeah theres a place called Connecticut Mustang and they always have motors avaiable for cheap prices.. they buy smashed up mustangs and part em out and they come with a guarntee to be fully funcitioning.. Theyre also selling a 2003 Cobra Motor for only $2000! Wish i could do that swap! :winks

whattttt an 03 cobra motor for 2k?????? there has to be some catch (tons of miles, damage etc).

long tube headers require no welding at all. only thing's you'll need are a new shorty mid pipe and some o2 sensor extensions.

na man trust me dude these people are legit, they sell you **** that will work.. theyre a huge company from where i from.. they buy parts and cars from all over the USA and sell nothing other than mustang stuff

do they have a website? if so please share. im going to end up installing a forged shortblock within the next few years (hopefully) and if i could obtain a cobra assembly for cheap that would be clutch!
