you can not drive the car, once you get it started if you put it in gear it dies and engine locks up! it has heavy dark smoke when it is running. if the head gaskets are leaking wouldn't it be White smoke? ANY and ALL help is greatly appreciated. I am a chevy guy who bought his first FORD and don't know much about these things

i'm hoping thats what it is, just curious on how to diagnose them. do i pull the upper plenum, remove the fuel rail and then key up car and see if injectors stay on? also i know on most gm's if an injector is stuck you can tap on it and usually it will temporarily stop leaking, will that work on my mustang?

when the engine's running the wires to the injectors should pulse. you can put a "noid light" on the wire and it'll blink with every pulse. if it doesnt, its either the wrong wire or the injector driver in the computer is toast.

i wonder if this could possibly be someones blunder putting in big injectors and not tuning it, or else setting the injectors to a really high setting and not knowing any better.

If i were to add 60lb injectors to my car, might something simular happen?

Try the noid lights that will make sure you have a signal going into the injector. You can get a drop test for the injector but normally from snap on. This will plug into the injector and run a cycle through the injector. Be careful. Too much fuel can wash out rings!

this happened to our ranger. check the wire with a tester. if it is not pulsing the computer is fried. id stop running the engine. you are going to toast the bearings with all that fuel that has gotten past the rings not to mention the cylinder wall damaged by the "washed wall" effect. get your stuff in order, run it for as little as possible and get the injectors diagnosed. either stuck on or some jack put oversized ones on. then change the oil. preferably twice to flush that **** out of there after its fixed.

locked up means seized, as in engine will not turn over even with the starter. i hope this isnt what you mean.

if it pulses you can thank the lord its not your ecm. make sure all the plugs are firing as they should. i had the coil go weak on my mustang. replaced it with new accel coil from AM and it was better than new.
