99' Mustang help with A/C

Hello, thanks for any advice you can lend.

We're having problems with my wife's A/C, it suddenly stopped working. I actually posted another thread on this. Thanks for the advice there, much appreciated. We've narrowed it down to the dash controls. Please excuse my lack of correct terminology when speaking of these parts, lol.
So, I have a new/used dash cluster. I have the dash basically apart ready to pull out the cluster/knobs, the whole assemble whatever it's called. There's one grey round oblong flat thing that connects deap under the dash I can't seem to get disconnected. This piece appears to just slip over and snap onto some pole, but it doesn't come off so easily, unless there's a trick to it. I know my description sucks, but does anyone recognize this piece I'm talking about and know how to get it off?
Really, thanks for your help, it's 110 degrees here, lol.

Pictures would help. But likely you are the temperature control cable. Perhaps you are trying to remove from inside the dash when it should be removed from the dash control

  1. Using the special tool, disconnect the temperature control cable from the control head.

Thanks, you were absolutely correct, much appreciated. Piece a cake after that.

Thanks
