I read tons of posts on car sites regarding how to store a vehicle over the winter months. If I did every little obsessive thing that some people suggested, storing my car would become a second job every fall.....:heha:.

So here are my questions:

Is it OK to keep the parking brake engaged during storage? My garage is flat, but if the car rolled out, my drive has a fairly steep incline, and the outcome wouldn't be very good.

Is it OK to keep the car in gear during storage? I'm in the habit of putting the car in 6th gear when it's parked.

Thanks,

Tim

I wouldn't have the park brake engaged for storage on a flat floor.
Sixth gear is the easiest to roll the car in, you should be using first. Yes it's ok.
If you really want to be safe put a block of wood behind a tire.

I guess I was looking at the gear thing like a bicycle. If you put a 10 speed in tenth gear, and then jump on to ride, it's almost impossible to exert enough force to keep the bike moving, versus being in first gear.

If you're not going to drive the car at all during the winter, consider putting it on jack stands. You won't have four square tires going thumpity-thumpity-thump come springtime, and all concerns about the car rolling become moot.

flat spotting is an old timey issue. Modern tires will not be affected for more than a mile if at all. Out of an abundance of caution I just bump the psi to 40 when putting it away and park mine on cardboard folded about 3/4" thick. Your opinion may vary....

If you're worried about using the ebrake just block the wheels.

Kid, I'm sure you just didn't mention: wash B4 covering it. I also since it's in my unattached garage put in mouse repellant (cotton balls with peppermint & spearmint oil) renew it every month or so. I also leave the window down 1/2 inch due to the framless windows.
