A Couple Swap Questions...

2490 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  LXR4Ti
OK, I plan on swapping my 2.3 for a 5.0...
What all will I need? So far all I know I need is:
5.0 Motor
5.0 ECU
Motor Mounts?

And I heard a couple of people tell me that the 2.3 Tranny will work, with the change of a bearring?

Is this car an original 2.3? If so you will need the susp. for the front
and also the bell housing I believe.
What suspension parts will I need? And I have a 5spd tranny, will I still need the bell housing?
So far, here's my list of what I need:
5.0 Motor
ECU
Suspension
Exhaust
Motor mounts

Am I missing anything?

For the suspension, you will need the springs, rotors and calipers. More weight on the front end requires bigger rotors to stop efficiently. Pull them off any 5.0 Fox body and you're good to go. If you are using your tranny from the 2.3 plan on getting one from a 5.0 as well. It will be gone in a week if you use it. You will also need the correct bellhousing.
Don't forget to get the wiring harness for the 5.0 engine compartment. They are quite a bit different from the 2.3. Also may want to think about getting an 8.8 rear end. The 7.5 is OK but with any type of engine upgrades it will not be long before you snap the gears.
I know it sounds like alot but if you can find decent parts out of the boneyard, you can keep costs very low.
Good Luck!!:eyebulge:

Please refer to my post in the thread "Will it Fit?" in this section of the forum...

The 2.3L Tranny (T5 5 Speed) will only put up with some abuse. now you have a couple of choices...

1) Go and Get a V6 T5 From an SN95 at the JY...

-Pros: Decent Reliability in the gearbox, and made to take the power

-Cons: Bellhousing, Input Shaft and bearing retainer MUST BE SWAPPED with a 5.0L Fox T5 Tranny to work correctly as the Input Shafts and Bells used in the 3.8L or 5.0L SN95's are Longer due to the body length and shifter location in floor of SN95 Cars.

2) Go ant Get a V6 or V8 T5 from a Fox Chassis Car at the JY...

-Pros: Direct Compatability with the 5.0L Motor used in the Fox Chassis Cars (Obviously) and decent Reliability if you get a good one.

-Cons: Best to use a 5.0L T5 Driveshaft with this setup... (or either for that fact, LOL) due to the not so different Differences in the 2.3L to 5.0L T5 Driveshafts (if you understand that, LOL)

NOTE: DO NOT COBBLE YOUR CAR TOGETHER AS ALTHOUGH I DO NOT OWN A 5.0L OR A CONVERSION 5.0L I HAVE HAD MY HANDS UNDER THE HOOD OF A FEW REAL PEICES OF WORK. AND HELPED CORRECT THE PROBLEMS WITH THESE CARS.

DO IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME!!! :sterb:
