So I'm watching the news tonight and they come to a story about General Motors. GM wants the government to add a one dollar a gallon gas tax across the board to the entire nation. The reason: To lead consumers to buying fuel economy cars!

This coming from the company that makes Corvettes with 600+ HP Camaros with over 500+HP Huge SUVs that can double as tanks. Caddys with huge engines that can go 200mph. ETC ETC. Give me a break!

Actually, I'm all for it, but the catch is ONLY GM owners get taxed. We'll see how their sales are doing tomorrow!

Disgusting!

Typical socialist mentality. Sounds like a government puppet at work. $1 a gallon additional gas tax will fuel inflation causing prices in general to rise and cripple the economy even further. Of course rich people like GM’s CEO aren’t bothered by such things. Guess who’s backs it falls on?

ugh...

my step dad I lived with from 16-18 loves chevys... Where I'd been raised with the "mopar or no car" mentality, thanks to my father.

I'd love a challenger, but they are so damn expensive. The model I can afford doesn't have enough balls to get out of it's own way. and seriously... **** the new Camaro. In fact, there isn't a single car chevy makes that I'd buy.

so ford it is.... I mean what else do you expect me to do? Buy a Toyota? Hell no.

Wow... what a jackass... instead of sucking it up and trying to solve the problem of meeting federal fuel standards while maintaining profitability, he just wants the government to force people to pay more for gas and make them buy the more efficient vehicles for him. Sounds eerily similar to that whole bailout thing... "solve our problems for us, don't make us actually innovate, survive, and then profit on our own!"

This I have to agree with :bigthumbsup

I saw that on Cavuto this afternoon. Right about the same time the guest was saying on a hot day when the Electric system is taxed to the limits, and now they want to plug cars into it.

I think I will stick to burning gasoline, something about having a coal fired car is not appealing :gringreen

What ever happened to either being successfull and staying around or going broke and going away?

I mean, I know GM is a lot of jobs, but at the rate they do business they're going to doom this entire country!

Q) "America's struggling to pay their bills, forclosing on homes in record numbers, and has over 10% of its citizens out of work (while keeping 99.9% of its illegals employed)what can we do to help?"

A) "How about we charge an extra buck per gallon so we can try to force the struggling people into buying cars they can't afford with technology that isn't proven."

Buy a Volt! It's kind of electric and it will probably catch fire and kill you so you won't have to worry about paying off your debts anymore. You'll be dead:bigthumbsup

I will never consider another GM vehicle in my life! I dont care if they bring the Chevelle back, have a 454 engine in there and sell it for $20K. Never!:nono:

Chris I LIKE You:bigthumbsup You think like Me:winks I have Friends that worked at GM and most of the time there asleep making $80 an hour, they Laugh about it. I wont get into that either but GM still OWES the American Taxpayers Money, now they want to Push Electric Cars on us, HA HA, it's Not Gonna Work. I'd rather ride a Bike than drive an Electric Car. I wonder If AM has a Tuner and CAI with Tunes for the Chevy Volt:gringreen

This is bogus man, Why don't GM pay each employee a dollar less per hour and give it back to America. Instead of force everyone to pay more for already high gas prices. Sounds like some sort of propaganda to force vehicle sales. This is BS!

I will alway's have a muscle car no matter how high gas gets. That's irritating to no end, all this will do is kill the muscle car.

How is this supposed to ease the burden of anything? It's just pushing an ideology onto the already struggling America . The answer is not fuel efficient cars. I'll stop before I get on my soapbox here.

GM making the statement? Or is it really pointy headed bureaucrats working with the REAL ownership? That would be the Federal Government.

Fight socialism...buy a Ford.

GM has a lot of balls after sucking off the Govt's tits! I am not in agreement with Obama on this, if you're a major company and you can't stay afloat then sink! Look at Pontiac, Oldsmobile, and other GOVT MOTORS. Brands disappearing! And they want to RAISE gas prices $1.00 per gallon! How about giving the bonus money the high executives earned to the employees who are struggling to make ends meet! I have nothing against the UAW who unfortunately work for GM but let's get real! If it weren't for a bailout they'd be all working for Ford!

Here is another good one for you the government plans on buying a hug fleet of Chevy Volts in order to "take" the leaad in the green movement. In other words no one wants to but an over priced cars that will run up their electric bill. So now our tax dollors will go to GM again. Can you say back door bail out?

How about the government pump billions, or trillions into a solar power infrastructure? That's what I'd be on board with. Screw oil. Did you know that if we could capture 1% the sunlight which hits earth in a single day, we could power the USA for the entire year? Also, running off pure solar energy would realistically pay a few pennies per kilowatt/hr, unless the company price gouges. I just wish I had the intelligence to build such a collector.

It's true, we need to get off of oil and gas. Electric is the next step (or hydrogen; even though it takes a lot of electricity to separate hydrogen and oxygen atoms - see my solar comment) it will make us all the better in the long run.

Though, it'll never happen until oil runs out because Big Oil will lobby to have their laws passed to protect them so they can continue raking in tens of billions of dollars in profit while the rest of the country goes to sh.it. Politics are b.s. and we the people should stand up against such horrible practices (outlaw Lobbying). :bigthumbsup

Also, let GM fail. The jobs will be secure because another car company will just buy them and keep the doors open, restructure and hopefully make a profit!

1969-1970 model year would be the last model year I would consider buying a GM product. I am a Mopar man from way back and the last model year I bought a mopar was 1970 so its Ford or nothing. I won't even walk on a GM or Chrysler lot. Waste of time. I'm old school mopar and new school Ford. GM never did a thing for me. My imagine of them is still in the crapper. Oops was I typing out loud?:smoke:

Isn't what the GM CEO suggesting racketeering? Use the power of the government to force people into buying his product.

I agree Jenkins!

I've read where if we were to put up a bunch of solar panels over the uninhabited Arizona desert lands (about 5sq miles worth) we could power the entire country for just the cost of solar equipment and upkeep.
