With all the praise being thrown around about the V6's, I thought this was an interesting read. FYI, I ordered a V6.

intresting read, i still aint buyin one.
so after reading the article...why did you opt for the v6? ...no disrespect intended
eh it seems very opinion based because he says things like this particular aspect looks "stupid" but he cant seem to outwardly deny its a bitchen car. It seems he was just trying to play devils advocate but not doing a good job. lol Im all forthe V6

He faults the car for not being economical if the driver drives uneconomically, and not being sporty if the driver drives it conservatively. The article seems to be trying to find fault for fault's sake. That said.....I'm getting the 5.0! :D

The writer throws out several good points but IMHO I think he is extremely biased. "Don't be fooled. The truth is that guys who really love to drive (not like, love) will save up a few more months and buy a GT with the new 5.0-liter V8. It's even worth the higher insurance premiums."

"No, the V6 is all about the person looking for fuel mileage in a sporty coupe." If you're not in a V8, you're wasting your time. Some one please wake this guy up and let him know drivers purchased their Mustangs for several different reasons but brute power was not on our list. I love this car and have no regrets and I'm sure many other V6 owners agree.

I don’t know how you read it, but I read it as saying if you are buying the car for the speed then get the V8. Otherwise the V6 is much improved from previous years, but its not a speed demon. I personally am not a hardcore driving enthusiast, but I knew I wanted a sport car. I looked at the Camero, Challenger, and 2010 GT. I ruled out the Camero because it didnt have all the options I liked, I ruled out the SE because even though I don't care a lot about speed, who wants a slow sports car, so then I was left with the G/T and the R/T. I priced the R/T out to $41K, and around the same for the GT, I then actually pulled the trigger on the R/T because I liked the way it looked better then the Mustang, but backed out 5 days later because I wasn’t ready to start having a $650 car payment.

I revisited the car buying last week when I learned I am getting a promotion and I stumbled on the 2011 Stangs. Again, speed isn't a huge priority for me, but I don't wanna snail either. This will be my daily driver, so I wanted all the niceties, Nav, sound, leather, etc. I priced out a V6 Premium with basically every option for around 30K. So to answer you question, I ordered the V6 because I wanted a responsible priced sports car with a lot of options. Looks good, loaded with options, good gas mileage, and decent speed. I think Ford hit it right outta the park with this one.

One thing I have noticed in my few days on the forum is that there are two main types of Stang owners. Speed guys and everyone else. Speed guys wont even consider the V6, order a GT with only performance upgrades (no Nav, sound, camera), they don't care about that stuff, and will only buy a manual. Then there is everyone else, we like the way Mustangs look and drive, will get the speed if we can afford it, and will probably drive an automatic. FYI, I am waiting on the Performance Package and getting the manual. I am an "everyone else," but I think the V6 Mustang is giving me the best of both worlds.

P.S.

I am sure no one cares about my long winded explanation as to why I brought my car, but hey I am at work and don't anything better to do at the moment.

Real idiot

He doesn't know what a sports car is.
As someone who went through the muscle car age and had many of them I can say that most were 2 ton poor handling 8 MPG gas hogs.
This V6 would win a pure stock contest with any old performance car and look sweet doing it.
To go fast you need controled smooth power which is why a V6 will be easy to go fast in, it's my choice as being retired I can't afford 8 MPG.

I just graduated from HS and this was my present. a brand new 2011 v6. It had 95miles on it when I took it home. It is just the base car, not even power seats. I don't mind. I just wanted something faster than my '04 3.9. My parents made me read a few articles on it before I decided because I initially wanted an '06-'09gt. But after reading I decided to get it.
Now he is right, just getting up and going it's not all to fast if you have the stock rear end. But after you pass the 3000rpm it does pull and get up and go. And whoever drove that car for the mpg ratings was an idiot. I get 32mph driving on the highway. set it on 70 and cruise. I get 32. driving 15miles to work and gunnin it for fun i still get 26... And I punch it to the floor every so often. Now, It does have some pull, but it's after you hit the 3000 mark. I love this car and it's dramatically faster than my 3.9...

Not trying to flame, but I never understood presents for graduating high school. I bought my parent's crappy used Accord.

A present for your master's...maybe. HS and a bachelor's? Eh. Kids nowadays are spoiled. Half the girls in my HS had daddy buy them a Lexus for their sweet 16. Blech.
Lol, I'm helping pay for it, and I got a full ride into College. Soooo
Awesomest

I enjoyed your post and agree with you. You buy a car that fits your interests and lifestyle.

I am the performance guy you mentioned, ordered a base GT with performance axel and Brembo brakes, NOTHING ELSE!, I wanted the lightest, most powerful car for the money. That is me, but I respect and understand your choice. Enjoy your car. We are still Mustang brothers.

Copper Man:yup:

I totally understand it. If I had kids and could afford to buy them a Mustang for any reason I would do it. If you got the money then spend it. You can't take it with you when you are dead.

No kidding joker. Yeah, I had a bad a#% car in high school (77 1/2 bandit Trans Am), but I worked full time and paid for it ALL myself, as I have all of my vehicles. I agree, a car for a Master's maybe.

Anyway, this article doesn't surprise me. The new Mustang V-6 is not the end all or the greatest thing sinced bread. It is a nice car, just as the author stated. The old V-6 was/is a nice car and had some torque down low.

Good thread because it was not like the typical threads where the V6 lovers are bad mouthing the huge cost (35k +) of the GT. I considered a loaded V6 and a base GT as they were the same price.

Thanks. This will be my first sports car, perhaps my next I can just use for fun and speed.

How old is the reviewer?

I don't know about you, but i don't torture my new Mustang by driving it between 3000-7000 rpm just to go to work. No wonder he's getting lousy mgp's. He sounds like my bosses kid who drives 150mph between 2 red lights getting tickets galore bragging about how much faster he could go.

You have to understand that i upgraded from a Focus which was not at all powerfull. This new V6 is eons away from my old car. Heck, Since i'm still breaking it in, i have yet to push beyond it 3000 since the dealer advised against it.
