I have an acceleration issue on my sons 1992 Mustang Lx 2.3l four banger 5speed Manual Tranny. The check engine light was on and so I did a small tune up. I replaced the following.
Both Coils
Autolight spark plugs… I gap at .044 per autozone website
Duralast ignition wires
Ignition Control Module
Throttle body position sensor
Crankshaft position sensor
Pcv valve.
O2 Sensor.
Firing order per Autozone website:
2-4
3-1

4-2
1-3

The check engine light is now OFF but the car accelerates very slowy. Smells like it is running rich.
I check the coils by unplugging one and then systematically pulling the plug wire to see if there was fire on each and there was. Even zapped myself once! LOL!

My dad thinks it is the spark plugs and I should have went with a platinum mortorcraft as the copper Autolites don’t work in Fords. Im planning on pulling the plugs and rechecking the gap but wanted some suggestions.
Thanks,

Pull the codes again even tho light is now on. Also you could have a stopped up Cat.
Verify coil wiring. There is some wiring diagrams on net that are wrong. One member here found the correct one and tested it. Here is the info.

Diagram of 8 plug coil for proper placement of plug wires on coil packs.
Thanks to Moon3at3r for finding, testing and trying on his car and proving correct.

You can try the fix to my issue, had a clogged fuel filter. Either check the fuel pressure or let the car sit a day or two then try to start it and if it runs better you need a new fuel filter that's how I found out...

Correct but I like to confirm the easy stuff and then move on. Usually the cheap Motorcraft plugs work. That is what I am running. [Non platinum, bad on turbo motors usually] Maurice

They do work I'm using double iridiums in the car but I'm going to order some cheap copper motorcrafts to see if there's any difference... Also I think he should really check the fuel filter it's like 10$ to change and super easy. If he changed all those things and is still having an issue it sounds like it's either missing fuel or has a vacuum leak (if it smelled rich like my car does then it would smell really bad even with 93 octane...)

your firing order is off. the coils should be the same but 180 degrees off if that makes sense. search my replies or threads. I don't have the 93 anymore and got rid of my notes for it. get the intake side right then mirror that 180 and you should be fine. like I said I don't have notes but if front coil front right is 1 then back coil back left is 1. back being firewall and front is radiator. good luck
