I have a 2000 manual, only mod is a set of stainless shorty headers. I have the same thing. The car won't really hit its stride till you get up around 2500 or so. The problem is the motor is out of its power range, it doesn't make peak till 5300 or something like that. Experiment with launching the car at different rpm. Bring the motor up to a certain spot, like say 1500, and try launching there, then try a different rpm. Do this until you find the highest launch point where you don't fry the tires, that will be your quickest accel.
