2 things guys. 1- What's the true ave. gas mileage for the GT. I just dont believe that it's 21 for an 8 cyl. American car. Also, how does it feel to see a car like an STI fly by on the highway, and know that there's no way to handle/perform at that level? I want a GT sooo badly, but people assure me that I wouldn't be happy with the performance. Thanks.

I have averaged 16 mpg. However, I only have 500 miles on mine and I have heard that this will increase a little once the engine is broken in. This has also been in a majority of bad stop and go traffic in the post Hurricane Katrina suburbs of New Orleans. If you are looking for an average of 20 and don't get on it all of the time, I think it would be attainable.

I was never looking at buying an STI, but I have seen a few on the road while driving my new GT. I just feel bad for those guys overpaying for that car.

Ever since I received mine, '05 GT, I have gotten between 21 and 23 MPG. I currently only use premium fuel and get my fuel at quality gas stations. I only also have 1300 miles on my car. I use Mobil 1 synthetic oil whether that helps or not.

To add also, this is driving the vehicle 50/50. 50% screwing around with no regard to milage savings (this car is just to dang fun), launching at stoplights, passing etc and 50% driving at normal speeds, normal starts and stops etc. My highest fuel milage once was 24.8 MPG, worst was 19.2 MPG.

I live at an altitude of 7000' in the Rocky Mountains too.

Well, I got 25mpg on the highway with 1000 miles on mine.
Avg around 22 driving to work and what, pretty good mix of driving.

As far as performing as well as an STI... are you kidding. IT has 300hp and weighs almost 600lbs more. I already raced one and beat him... I was stock he had catback exhaust, BOV, and a boost controller.

Handling, well the less weight helps. I know the AWD systmem is good for bad wether, or unideal conditions... but who races in those conditions.

If you want a Rice Racer and have all the High School Boys drooling get the STI... its not a bad car. If you want the women and more mature folks eyeing your car... get a GT.

BTW, knocking the GT on a Mustang forum gets you official Troll Status. :sterb:

Most of the GT mileage figures come from owners with manual transmissions, we didn't get a lot of feedback from the automatic owners, but the two are very close.

I looked up "STI" in Google and found "Sexually Transmitted Infections". Think I'll stay away from that.

I've got about 5800 miles on my GT auto. I consistenly average 22-24 MPG driving back and forth from work to home. This drive is a 50% highway/city mix. Of course the MPG drops quickly if I drop the hammer one too many times!

5600 miles on my GT. Mostly city driving and the best mileage is 18 MPG.

I've gotten as high as 27.8 with highway driving (2 lane) going the speed limit:winks or about 65 mph. When the traffic lights get into the mix, it drops on down pretty quick. But in/out town (no 4 lane) it gets about 22 average. 05 GT 5-sp

I get 24mpg ,and that`s with an old 4speed auto !
As for the STI doing a flyby on a new GT , Its not going to happen, it`s more like a 05GT pulling away from the STI ,on the highway !

to be honest the sti has a 4.9 0-60 time, where the stang has a 5.1 sec time, a lot of this is because of the all wheel drive. but at freeway speeds it is a drivers race.

With about 1500 miles. I am averaging 19.2 mpg. (combined) Whoever "assured" you that you would be dissapointed with a GT has never had one.
It also looks like a souped up roller skate, no thanks, looks ain't everything, but it helps, :smoke:

FYI, my avrg mpg is 21.
I've yet to be blown away by an sti, I frequently play with one that a guy from my work drives. I don't smoke him from the line, but I do hang, and by 4rth have caught or passed him. Take your trolling to the road.:sterb:

I have yet to see this in real life. The STI is a hard car to launch properly. But soon the weight advantage overcomes the 60' advantage. Look above.

21? I get 25 on the highway. Why is that hard to believe? I would think it would be harder to believe that a 4 cyl car gets the roughly same gas mileage as a 8 cyl(STI and Mustang GT).

You mean like a ricer flyby? You may want a GT, but I don't think the GT wants you....

Did you know the V8 American Vette gets better gas mileage on the highway than a VW passat Wagon?

I ran the numbers of mileage (taking into account the grade required), insurance, and performance on the GT vs the STi and drove both before buying the GT. No contest in the $$ dept.

How are you guys getting 20, 21, 22, 23 mpg!!?? I have 12,000 miles on my GT and I'm averaging 17.5 mpg. I also have shorty headers, off-road x-pipe and Borla cat-back. But even w/o the off-road x-pipe, I was only at 18.2 mpg.

I get 18 in town. I have gotten as high as 29 on a 200 mile trip. GT manual transmission.

gotta stay out of the gas dude, sorry. Plus short trips just kill the average mileage.

I'm showing 20.8 Average MPG on my display. Mixed driving, town and highway, mostly taking it easy but I get at least three or four blasts off the stoplight per trip.
As an experiment I drove one tankfull "easy" and got 24 mpg :sleeping:
The next tankfull was all play and I got 17 mpg :tongue

when I take it easy I usually keep the revs below 2300 rpm's, there's plenty of torque. short shift, skip 2nd and 4th, coast alot. It will putt around if you let it.

"Old" Silver is just creeping up on 6,000 miles and is already a year old.

According to Motor Trend, their test mule hit 0-60 in 4.9 as well. Ford is now advertising that tested result in their brochure they sent me for 2006.
