Actual Gas milage/GT or STI- seriously.

2 things guys. 1- What's the true ave. gas mileage for the GT. I just dont believe that it's 21 for an 8 cyl. American car. Also, how does it feel to see a car like an STI fly by on the highway, and know that there's no way to handle/perform at that level? I want a GT sooo badly, but people assure me that I wouldn't be happy with the performance. Thanks.

According to Motor Trend, their test mule hit 0-60 in 4.9 as well. Ford is now advertising that tested result in their brochure they sent me for 2006.
The 05 GT has to be the first sub 30k stock car to hit under 5.0 seconds with pure engine power right?(That discludes S/C, turbo's, and aftermarket stuff). True American Muscle :laughlitt

Nope, 00-02 Z28's. If you could get one with Cloth intereior it would have been under $30K

And that car did NOT do 0-60 in under 5 seconds. No way, no how. My '97 Cobra was just as quick (or darn close) to the SS Camaro.
I have almost 2K on mine and got 19 best and 16 worst. Don't do a lot of freeway driving but when I do it's going 75 to 80 MPH. I'm sure if I drove slower, less gas pedal on take offs and more freeway I could be in the 20's but that's not fun. Every on ramp to the freeway is at 6K RPM's. Feels like a roller coaster with the top down

I stand by my original statement. Those cars put down more than 310hp to the wheels.

You Cobra was rated at 305hp at the Crank?

You must have met a dog or someone who couldn't drive.

I'm showing 20.8 Average MPG on my display.
I also read 20.8 on my display and it's been several thousand miles since I reset it.

The Chevy's 5.7-liter OHV V8 makes 310 hp at 5,200 rpm and a brutish 340 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm.
With our timing equipment at the ready, we found that the Z28 accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds and passes the quarter-mile in 13.8 seconds at 105.4 mph.

I guess that it is TRUE that the Stang is the ONLY car under $30K new thus far to go 0-60 in LESS than 5 seconds.
NOT always is it in the HP look at the 350HP charger vs stang. Sometimes it is just in the gearing.
The STI here in Canada sells for $48,995 and the Mustang GT sells for less than $40,000 Loaded Including IUP,ICAP,Shaker1000. so a price comparison isn't even close.

One car is a 2 door muscle car while the other is a 4 door Rally car.

The STI is a good handling car but I find AWD less fun to drive than RWD.

As far as off the line performance here is an in car video of my 05 GT VS an STI with a rookie at the wheel.

We're both on street tires and all I have is a C&L intake and a Diablosport Predator.

To get a good launch with an STI you need to sidestep the clutch at around 5500rpm which isn't really discreet on the street otherwise you become a victim just like this guy became.

Bye Bye STI

Aha! You didn't say "adjusting for inflation!"

1965 Shelby 427 Cobra - 0-60 in 4.6 seconds, cost ......$8,800.

So we all stand corrected. I was assuming we were speaking of anything of "recent history". lol
And yes, adjusted for inflation that car would prolly cost as much or more than a vette.

Wow, Ford must have paid some serious cash to advertise in that Magazine.

Im sorry and LS1 Z28 running a 13.8?:eyebulge:

Who was driving that thing... my grandma?

Plenty of Mags out there posted sub 13.3 times for those. If you want to magazine race, I have an issue of GM High Tech Performance and they put a set of slicks on a boe stock 98 and ran a 12.9. 00-02 have more power. So figure a 12.7

Under $30K and only cost $400 for the slicks and Bam... first car under $30K to run 12s... adjusted for inflation.

There is just no way that an 05 Mustang GT is faster than a LS1. :handball:
I still can't figure out why you don't drive a Chevy.

ummm, I've already made them look foolish.....
You are underestimating the 05 GT, seriously...It's not the previous model, it's a whole new car...
What Chevy would I drive? A truck?

Sorry, they killed the F-body and I am a Huge Pontiac fan.

Didnt get the GTO because of Price... just want worth it because I didnt want all the options.

The GT filled what I like. V8 RWD and a Stick, plus it looks cool. Though, in no way does its performance impress me, but its good enough.

If their still was a Firebird to be had new, I wouldn't have even looked at anythign else, but there is not so here I am. Happy owner of an 05 GT.
Last time I went and looked at a GTO the salesman was almost begging me to take it. I told him I was more interested in a Mustang and you would have to pay me to take a RWD Grand Prix with a V8. He told me whatever new Mustang GT I was looking at he would beat the price by $1000 with the same options, more or less paying me $1000 to buy it.

For being a huge Pontiac fan I could put you in touch with the dealership and they will probably give you the same deal.

They can't sale me a GTO for $24900.

That considerably below invoice and below dealer hold back. They would be taking a couple of thousand hit to pull that deal off.
GTO's just don't sell well in this area. I've seen only a few on the road. I bet it's better to move them off the lot then let them take up floor space and inventory.
