That's a great question, I'd like to know too. I looked at the filter and they claim 33% better flow than the stock filter. It's around $75 though!

What is also important is whether it traps particles as well. Someone on here may have some insight into that.
It is a filter that is reusable, which means it must be washed, dried and OILED, which translates into a huge mess, and can also damage the MAFF sensor,+ the cost, no thanks. And I don"t think you will gain any more performance.

They offer an oiled and dry version.
There are only two ways to increase flow over the OEM filter in the OEM box. Either the media is more open, potentially allowing more dirt to pass. If it claims to have the same particle size filtering efficiency as OEM, then a larger effective surface area will be needed. The latter could be accomplished by more and/or deeper pleats of media.

Looks like that may be the case:

Exactly, they switched to something similar to a cone design to increase surface area over the OEM flat filter design.
I HAVE IT!! IT did nothing but its still cool and im glad i have it.

ROTFLMAO! First kid on the block...
I ran one for 3000 miles with airaid mit and drilled out lower front side of airbox.

I drilled mine out as well. It just didnt seem right to only have the air be able to come in from one point, especially with the afe style filter. I drilled bunch of holes on the non engine side of the box. I didnt notice anything tho, But the good thing is i didnt notice anything (meaning nothing bad happend either).

Scotty P tells me "You basically have youre own Cold Air Intake, You nah wha im sayin?"
I just got one of these and installed it today. Nice tight fit in factory air box on my 3.7L V6. Is it worth it? Well, should last the lifetime of this Mustang
