can anyone explain to noob the reason why when changing gears they will sometimes whine and not whine from the same manufacturer?

is it that they were not shimmed properly or is it because of a defect from the manufacturer and all you can is keep replacing them till you get a set that doesnt make any noise? do you have to rebalance the driveshaft when you change gears?

thanks in advance for your answers.

its funny you mention richmonds because thats the brand i am talking about.

so if they do whine its primarily because they werent installed right?? and not a defect of the gear

I had a set of Richmond 4:10 gears installed and they whined from day 1. I had the installer recheck the shims and clearance and everything is to spec. I've gotten used to it as it only ooccurs at low rpm. No big deal.
