Hey guys,
I was looking for something like this when I wanted to try out the new American Muscle 93 Race tune, but didn't really find any information all in one thread. So, figured I would just make it for you all.
So, I probably ended up with one of Doug's very last 93 Race tunes pre-American Muscle, since several others who ordered a day or two after me never got their tunes and were tangled up in PayPal disputes. I ordered mine in November and got the C&L CAI and 93 Race tune on Christmas Eve.
Anyhow, after hearing Chris Rose ended up at AM, I decided to try out their new 93 Race tune and compare it to my old 93 Race on my 09 automatic.
After running it for about a week, I came to some pretty good conclusions:
American Muscle 93 Race - A real fast tune, easily chirping the tires from a stop. Sometimes it caught me off guard if i'd turn out of a shopping plaza and give it too much gas, banging my head on the headrest. It's definitely fun, but the shifting is pretty awkward. Driving normally, the car goes through 1st gear with no problem, shifting around 2100 rpms, but kind of gets stuck in second too long. When you think you should be in third, it is still hanging out in second at 3100-3300 rpms, and when you let off the gas it doesn't really downshift, staying at around 2000 rpm, making it kind of hard to slow down to stop. On the highway at around 75 mph, it stays pretty high up in the rpms as well.
I think it had a pretty big effect on my gas mileage staying that high.
Pre-American Muscle Doug 93 Race - Also a fast tune, again easily chirping the tires. It is a much more predictable tune, shifting when it feels like it should be shifting. Shifts are alot firmer as well. Rpms when driving around town stay much lower, as well as when your cruising on the highway. But, there is a dead spot on this tune where it down shifts and becomes kind of hard to get out of it and go fast again. Gas mileage was a little better than stock.
So, I must say I was kind of disappointed in the new 93 Race tune. I mainly wanted a tune that was fast all around, with no dead spots, while not having too big an impact on my mpg. The shifting just didn't make sense and was kind of annoying driving around town, since you have to hit the brakes alot to get it to the low rmps.
Since it was a free tune, I don't want to bug them to tweak it to make it better, so I just put my old 93 race tune back on. I don't know what parameters would have to be tweaked for it to be a really awesome tune, but in my experience it still needs some work. I should state Chris Rose didn't give me the tune, another worker did which may impact it's performance?
I don't know, but thought this would be a helpful post for anyone wondering!
