Hey guys,

I was looking for something like this when I wanted to try out the new American Muscle 93 Race tune, but didn't really find any information all in one thread. So, figured I would just make it for you all.

So, I probably ended up with one of Doug's very last 93 Race tunes pre-American Muscle, since several others who ordered a day or two after me never got their tunes and were tangled up in PayPal disputes. I ordered mine in November and got the C&L CAI and 93 Race tune on Christmas Eve.

Anyhow, after hearing Chris Rose ended up at AM, I decided to try out their new 93 Race tune and compare it to my old 93 Race on my 09 automatic.

After running it for about a week, I came to some pretty good conclusions:

American Muscle 93 Race - A real fast tune, easily chirping the tires from a stop. Sometimes it caught me off guard if i'd turn out of a shopping plaza and give it too much gas, banging my head on the headrest. It's definitely fun, but the shifting is pretty awkward. Driving normally, the car goes through 1st gear with no problem, shifting around 2100 rpms, but kind of gets stuck in second too long. When you think you should be in third, it is still hanging out in second at 3100-3300 rpms, and when you let off the gas it doesn't really downshift, staying at around 2000 rpm, making it kind of hard to slow down to stop. On the highway at around 75 mph, it stays pretty high up in the rpms as well.

I think it had a pretty big effect on my gas mileage staying that high.

Pre-American Muscle Doug 93 Race
- Also a fast tune, again easily chirping the tires. It is a much more predictable tune, shifting when it feels like it should be shifting. Shifts are alot firmer as well. Rpms when driving around town stay much lower, as well as when your cruising on the highway. But, there is a dead spot on this tune where it down shifts and becomes kind of hard to get out of it and go fast again. Gas mileage was a little better than stock.

So, I must say I was kind of disappointed in the new 93 Race tune. I mainly wanted a tune that was fast all around, with no dead spots, while not having too big an impact on my mpg. The shifting just didn't make sense and was kind of annoying driving around town, since you have to hit the brakes alot to get it to the low rmps.

Since it was a free tune, I don't want to bug them to tweak it to make it better, so I just put my old 93 race tune back on. I don't know what parameters would have to be tweaked for it to be a really awesome tune, but in my experience it still needs some work. I should state Chris Rose didn't give me the tune, another worker did which may impact it's performance?

I don't know, but thought this would be a helpful post for anyone wondering!

Im glad you cleared that up, I have been asking about the 93 Race Tunes from AM. I got one of the last writes of Chris Roses Tunes fom Tillman's. I Love the 93 ALL OUT Tune, nothing to complain about, everythings perfect through the gears. I also got his 93 Road Race Tune but have yet to try it, does anyone have a 93 Road race Tune from Chris from when he was at Tillman's and if so how does it compare to the one's from AM?

Well i just got my tuner from AM about 1 week ago and they had doug tune it for me and i have no complaints what so ever. I have a manual transmission though so i get to choose where i shift anyways but, there is still a huge performance increase in the 93 race tune from AM/Bama over the stock especially when going from second to third in a drag race you can still feel the power increaseing wereas in stock when you would shift into third it would sort of feel dead.

You have to be carefull with this tune though especially with the manual transmision though becaue it is so easy to spin the tires and through the back end out . if you let the clucth out too fast. :bigthumbsup

The only performance mods i have thought are CAI and FRPP dual exhaust, so the same as everyone else pretty much

My over all rating of this tune though is a 10 out of 10, i would defintitly recomend this 93 Race Tune to everyone though.:yup:

I totally agree with you about the race tune and 2nd gear with the auto. I live right in the city and alot of streets have stop sign after stop sign...with this tune it stays in 2nd slightly longer than 1st..(1st shifts at 2k...2nd shifts to 3rd at 3k)...it can get pretty annoying at times...sucker likes to jump like a manual at high rpms. I tried going back to the performance tune but after running the race tune I just cant do it...everything else with the race tune is amazing though...iits prolly one of the reasons they dont recommend this as a daily driver...maybe I'll just try out the tillman tune everyone talks about....

wow, closest ive seen to mine, DUR2. i only had 91 tunes till this year, but i preferred tillmans race tune to dougs, but doug had the shift thing going on so i would run that sometimes for fun. the tillman all out was the best. the new 93 race tune from am is kickin butt for me now :D

Not sure of my computer code, sorry.

Like I said, I went back to my Doug tune, and the rpms are way lower again. On the highway, going about 75, I was cruising at about 2100 rpm whereas the AM tune had me at 2600 rpm at the least, couldn't get it lower.

Considering half my commute is highway, that is just a bunch of wasted gas, which I felt when i had to fill up real early last week.

Now, if I just wanted to drive like a maniac all the time, the AM tune is fine, but with Dougs old tune you can drive like a maniac when you want, burnouts and all, but allowing you to just go around town like normal when you want. There is still the dead spot though.

Perfect tune would be Dougs - dead spot!!!

Torpedo - PERFECT ANALYSIS.
I agree 100% I have both 93 race (old bama), and 93 race (am/bama) and have the exact same downshift issues with the new one as well as highway cruising rpms. I feel like I lost torque on the low end with the new 93 race.

I am stuck with the new (am/bama) 93 race because my SCT Tuner got stolen over spring break, but I am ordering a new SCT soon just so I can have my old 93 bama back - and so I can have my car tuned for my exhaust cutouts.

Im still searching myself....they all have their highs and lows...likes and dislikes...depends on what you truly want I guess....all out holy crap tune for me by far is the am/bama 93 octane race tune..totally different car now..very aggressive throttle and shifts...only quirk for me is the shifting of 2nd to 3rd under light driving....other than that this tune is lights out!! Unless you count the low mpg's due to the extreme need to punch it all the time:winks....also should sneak in that this tune has produced the best exhaust note my car has ever made...deep growl and just plain nasty sounding for a sixer!!

i agree, i like it, the feel the sound and i like the shifting the best of all my tunes too. as a experiment though, tonight i ran the new 93 am tune, then i loaded my old bama 91 race, then my old tillman 91 all out,( with the 93 fuel) and they all ran within 1/10th of a second in the 1/4 mile. so now, i`m not all that impressed with the am 93 tune, but i do like it. :D

That's rather interesting......guess there is only so much you can change to these cars and obviously they all know how to do it...

From what I have been reading about the different Tunes and since I have only tried 1 Tune so far The Chris Rose Tillman 93 ALL OUT Tune it seems as if this one has the best all all worlds in it.
The Throttle Response is great, the Shifts are Firm but not slammin, and you feel the Power through the whole Power Band. Now I DONT beat on My Car, I mostly got the CAI and Tune for better Throttle Response and better Shifts and that's exactly what I got. But the other day I just had to see what this ALL OUT 93 Tune would do, so at a Stop I flored it, the Tires spun and when it hit second (Auto) I did hear a little squak and by the time I hit third gear the car was moving out as Fast as I wanted to go so I satyed on it for a ltiile longer and the car kept going and it did feel like ALL OUT, so I backed off and I must say I was Impressed. It sure did'nt feel like a V6 under the Hood.
I do have the 93 Road Race Tune from Chris at Tillman's also but for now there's no need to even try it as the 93 ALL OUT Tune is Perfect. Now if I were to Race the Car like some of you then mabey the Road Race Tune would come in handy and Im sure I'll eventually try it just for the heck of it.
But like I said the Shifts from the ALL OUT Tune are FIRM but Not Banging, that's what I like best about it as I dont want to kill my Tranny with Hard Slamming Shifts.

The 93 race tune is about the same...tires burn from dead stop..chirps going into second..chirps going into third..snaps your head back shifting into fourth(crazy hard shift into fourth..even turned it down 25% with the sct) and finally at fifth,at about 85mph,this thing keeps you planted in the back of the seat cause its still pulling so hard...didnt do this before in fifth til I added the violators so obviously they added some high end power...Ive ran the bama street race tune and doesn't even come close to this...

thats pretty much what i was thinking. maybe little tiny tweeks for the shift ect, but in the end, most of the tunes are running the same. ya, the slammin shift feels better, but it didnt run any faster than the softer shift tune. the 93 tune didnt run any better than the 91 tunes. maybe a dyno tune is the only answer, but is it worth that kind of money to pick up a 1/2 second or even a second? guess it depends how bad you want it :)

I looked into getting a dyno tune here locally..but then I was quoted $350 bucks and that changed my mind rather quickly...too many other little bits I could do to this thing for that kinda money...

Hey guys,

I've read some of the posts here and wanted to clarify. This is one of the reasons that we don't recommend the Race Tune for daily driving, is because of the shift lock schedule, among other things, needs to be modified in order to work for urban/suburban trafficky driving patterns.

All you have to do is give me a call and let me know how you'd like your shifts adjusted, and within a few minutes you have an updated file sitting in your inbox.

The new AmericanMuscle/Bama tune files are quite an improvement on some of the old files from EITHER companies. There have been alot of changes, and 99% of the response has been "wow, huge increase! much smoother!" and everything OTHER than the shifting is straight from what I had created at Tillmans as the "All-Out" tune.

Small tweaks can be made at any time, and it's even possible that tire revs per mile or axle ratio could be off (which WILL throw off shift patterns). If you want it to shift into 2nd quicker and downshift quicker, just call me and it's a 30-second fix. So what if it's free?! You're not bothering us!

Give us a call to fix something if it bothers you! I'm glad the flat spot was taken care of in the tune, and if we can make a quick modification to custom tailor the shifting to your needs, it should be spot-on! Should feel alot smoother as well.

Another thing since your so hard to get ahold of, with those 2 Tunes I got a 93 Imission Tune, can I leave the JLT CAI on for Inspection with this Tune?
Thanks
