Ambient Lighting Kit Questions

Long time lurker, first time poster here!

I recently just joined the Mustang family and purchased a lightly used 2013 black V6 base model. As you all know, it did not come with any bells and whistles but I very much love the ambient lighting in the premium models and would love any info anyone here knows about it such as features, differences, colors, etc on the kit.

I want to get it put in JUST as it would from the factory but all the dealerships I've talked to said that's impossible. Should I visit a body shop and have them do it?

Thanks!

Im not sure a body shop would really know where to start. It would probably be easy to add the LED lights underneath the steering wheel area though, as far as physically placing them there goes.

I know you can get illuminated door sills , that shouldn't be much of a problem.

This is one of those things it needs to come from the factory with. But where there's a will(money) there's a way. Im sure someone can put aftermarket lights in. But I dont think your going to get it JUST as it comes from the factory though. On my car, you can change the "ambient light" to any color through the computer screen. Im not sure how a body shop would handle that.
I looked into it and it's next to impossible or atleast easy in any aspect. If you really want to do it you can get illuminated door sills for like $200 and led foot well lights for pretty cheap too. Where it gets hard is the center console and the guage cluster. The center console has to get wired into the cars lighting which I'm sure isn't hard but whether the color changing option will come over to is a question I never found the option for. The gauge cluster is harder as you have to get your hands on the whole assembly from a premium v6 (can't be a gt as the rev counter is different I believe)and then either get your dealer to swap the milages to the premium. There is also computer reprogramming stuff that has to happen but I think that was just to get the track apps to work, which you can do yourself by buying the tools or have someone do it mainly ford. Realistically to get it where the factory models look is going to be an undertaking your best bet is to look at the stuff diode dynamics has, they have some things that might help you achieve your goal.

Thanks for all the help guys!

May just count it up as a wash and look for the feature in a few years. Definitely going to do the door stills lighting Ford sells the kits to.
The ambient lighting is the MyColor feature on the Premium trims. You will not get this on a '13 without doing a full gauge cluster swap for the LCD screen. The closest you'll get is installing mock LED lights in the same places the Premium has them. Look for any LED strip such as these:

Welcome and congrats on your new ‘Stang, Boiler37! My name is Deysha with Ford Service. Here’s the info of the door sill plates.

Remember, they come with warranty when installed at your local Ford Dealer. Be sure to speak with your service manager.
