Another reason not to street race

I left a buddy's house last night at about 1:30. I was within my 2 beers per every 4 hours limit, so I felt fine to drive. I drive around a bit because I want something to eat and a block from my destination, a large black truck pulls up beside me. I don't really look to see what kind it is, but assume that it's one of those Dodges with the Hemi or something like that. Light turns green and I blow him away. Now I must say that I was very impressed with the car but was upset that I didn't take the TCS off, but that would be a much smaller problem about 6 seconds later when I saw nice flashing blue lights behind me. :happyhapp

So, they pull us both over and I honestly thought it was some sort of setup, but it wasn't. I go through a series of tests and questions. I have to blow into the breathalyzer and pop a .02, so life is semi-good; just a speeding ticket. Other guy wasn't so lucky and he popped a .12.

So long story short, my hunger to go fast screwed me. The one time, the one stinkin' friggin' time I do this, the boys in blue are sitting right there. What was even more stupid of me was the area. They were a mile down the street from the track and it was race night, so they were looking for idiots who didn't get their fill at the stadium.

So if they pull you over, be cooperative, be honest and don't be drunk. He could have really screwed me because CA doesn't play when it comes to street racing/exhibition of speed/whatever you want to call it. To top it all off, I didn't have adequate proof of insurance either. I have insurance, but I have been putting off printing out the card for awhile. It was promptly printed when I got home last night. The other factors are what really saved my butt.

And I'm not bashing cops, so I don't want this to turn into that kind of thread. I was 1000000000000% wrong in this situation, not the cops. I don't agree with some of their balance tests because a 100% sober person could fail those or not do so well, but whatever.

TAKE IT TO THE TRACK!!!! NOT THE STREET!!!!:nono:

Man sounds like a long night. Good thing you have a couple more beers to drink or ya would probably be in jail right now.
Cop said that even if I had blown a .05 or .06, they still could have given me a DUI because doing that is considered having impaired judgement.

I wasn't so concerned about the alcohol as just how stupid I felt for doing that. Just that one time I need my ego stroked, I get caught.

At least I know that the ticking noise from the engine bay doesn't affect performance.
A good lesson for us all! Thanks for sharing.
Lucky they didn't get you for racing or reckless driving. Actually they gave you a brake.
I take a chance every time I drive my car and I've been very lucky so far.
That sucks man. I've noticed that there are far more cops driving around pulling people over after midnight than during the afternoon rush hour when they should be out there.... yes you were speeding, but it was also 1:30AM, and I'm sure the streets were empty. I've been tempted many times to get in the pedal when its late and the roads are open, but the cops are everywhere at that time, so I don't :)
That's too bad but you've got the right attitude Joel! Bet you were never happier to see the numbers .02!
You did luck out with a speeding ticket. Sucks, but could have been worse.

Yeah, it was just a compliation of bad things that make me feel so stupid about it. The light was just off a street that has a rep for guys trying to race, so naturally the cops hang out there. He (cop) made some pretty solid points as far as me or the other guy possibly hurting someone. He even admitted that when he chased me down that he slid on some water coming out of the parking lot that he was in.

It feels good to dodge a bullet, but I don't like making a habit out of it. I'm sure my car is on the radar now, so I'll have to keep it under control.
Lesson learned, but atleast it didnt turn out bad for you man.. it could have been alot worse.
That's always the way of it. The one time you do something stupid, you get nailed. Cudos for taking responibility. Good thing it's only a speeding ticket.

I can't even do an illegal left turn without getting nailed. :so
You should have asked the officer to write on the ticket, that you won.
An unfortunate situation and from someone who accepts full responsibility - what a difference.
Good Story, glad to see you only got a speeding ticket.

I blew a .26 last night, lol. And when I got to work the next morning at 7am, I blew a .072
No I didn't drive last night, but did drive my 8 blocks to work in the morning.

I have one of these for fun.

It can be interesting. I trust it somewhat because the bartender blew a 0.000.

WOW! I shouldn't be shocked, but I am that you can actually buy one of those.
It was Friday, what can I say, lol.
Yeah I picked it up a while ago from Woot : One Day, One Deal (SM) 40 bucks
I was commenting on another thread and it prompted me to look this up as an example. Anyway, I never even told you guys how it all turned out.

So I go to traffic court to pay the ticket and it goes pretty smooth. I plead guilty and they charge me $170. Chump change compared to what it could have been. I pay and head out to the car. When I get there, I look down and to my shock, there is a $100 bill nicely folded up beside the rear tire. I look around, but there are no other cars even close to me, so I take it. Karma must have been glad that I owned up to the mistake and looked out for me a bit. Pretty awesome.

So when you need your speed fix, take it to the track, not the street!!! And don't mess with the cops. If they pull you over, just cooperate and it will be over soon.
i got one for ya ...........this is to show yall what luck i have last week on my way home from work i got a ticket too for ( exact cops works ) " it sounded like you took off fast " no bs got a careless operation charge ........worst part i never got on it i just put putted out of the parking lot BUT i have straight pipes go figure huh and even though i told him that i still got the ticket wth oh well i guess i just need to add that to my list of expensences for mods lol
