Starting to lean more towards an N/A setup but I'm not thrilled about the $1500 boss heads... 4% more flow doesn't seem that good but maybe it's because I'm new to the modular motor world and don't understand these motors all that well. Looked at MMR's website and saw pricing for porting. Stage 2 or 3 porting with a comp cams cam swap seems like a pretty narly setup :)

Does anyone have experience with the performance gains of stock coyote heads being ported?!! Any downside? And which is better, ported or boss heads?

JPC had a magazine article that showed over 20rwhp gain with their stage 1 heads on a bolt-on 5.0L (headers, cai, catback and tune). They made 446rwhp with their heads (424rwhp w/o).

This article claims gains up to 30rwhp as well.

I am installing a set of their stage 1 heads and cams on my car next week, and plan on giving some feedback on them.

Can't believe I over looked this company during all of my research! I have Borla lt's Offroad xpipe and ATAK Catback along with the boss manifold, JLT carbon fiber CAI and BBK 85mm TB so now my performance options are becoming more expensive. I would like to rebuild the top end for less than 4k and possibly hit 500whp.

What are your realistic expectations with your car?

There has only been a couple N/A builds that had heads/cams that I've seen on the web. Both posted over 500rwhp (507rwhp and 520rwhp). I would really like to break 500rwhp. Though I would expect at least 480rwhp on a very mild tune.

My first dyno was pretty spot on with the 'average' numbers across the board, which was 405rwhp for intake, catback, and tune. I would expect to be about 420-430 with headers, 460-475 with heads/cams, and 490-510 with Boss intake. I will be installing a 90mm throttle body a little later down the road as well.

*keep in mind, numbers are just generalizations.

The Boss intake lowers your torque numbers somewhat, and really comes into play at the upper end of your rpm with not that much of a gain.

The point of a boss intake isn't the massive gains so much... The fact that it allows your motor to spin higher rpm's compliments other performance mods and ups there power potential. Plus it looks good!!

Peak to peak gains with the Boss manifold are not that big, true. But area under the curve posts a big gain in the upper revs and not much loss in the lower. Its well worth doing IMO.

i'm putting on some boss heads this winter hoping for power gains across the board, also adding the factory boss exhaust cam. ported heads are either mmr, jpc, or livernois, or the boss castings. I've never seen a HP comparison so I cant say what heads flow the best and make the most HP.

Hey Moose, any update? Did you install those heads/cam? Curious what kinds of numbers you're getting.

They are installed, I need to do some more tuning and find some dyno time. I've got a tuner that has agreed to look over some data logs for some street tuning, once that is addressed I'll strap it down on the dyno for some comparison numbers, and a bit more tuning.
