anybody work on throttle cable/system?

780 Views 8 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  00' stang
when im driving and i shift out of gear into neuteral rpms stay high or go higher like the pedal is still depressed even though my foots off of it. it has got to do with the adjustment underneath the hood just "sticking" open. rpms stay high until i give the gas a quick shot and rev the engine, then they come back down. any ideas?

shouldve mentioned that the engine usually revs to around 1.5-2k but sometimes as high as 2.5k in neuteral
Are you sure its in the cable?

Are you driving around with the a/c or defrost on? Because the PCM will command the IAC valve to open up more when the a/c is on. My V6 will do the same things when the a/c is on, especially if its really hot out and the a/c compressor is cycling a lot.
The T/body gets dirty and the butter fly sticks and the IAC motor can get dirty and stick also. They claim you can't clean them but I have many times.
perhaps, the screw in the right side of TB is a little adjusted...:headscratch:
regardless if the a/c is on or off this happens. i've adjusted something that looks like a metal hinge peice with a coiled spring around it, and the rpms will go back to where they should be at idle. this seems to solve the problem temporarily (until im driving it again, then have to give it a quick rev again)

+1 My car does the same thing, but only after nitrous runs. The throttle body need to be cleaned. It's a 10 minute job. Use carb cleaner and a very fine sandpaper around the butterfly opening.......

i'll give it a try. thanks guys :bigthumbsup
I took off the intake between the MAF and TB to clean it. I expected the tb to be convered in black gunk but it was surprisingly squeaky clean. i still cleaned both sides of the 'plate' but still didnt see a difference when driving...
