I have had my 01 GT Automatic for about 2 months now and love it. I have an automatic question (don't rag two left knee surgeries pretty much negates a manual for a daily driver). Sometimes the 1-2 shift at WOT is strong and give a good chirp of the tires and other times it shifts firm (no slippage) but not hard enough to slip the tires. You can feel the difference inside the car.

It seems to always catch second it I punch it from a 5-10 roll, but from a stand still it won't. Is this normal, is it the AOD 'brain' trying to figure out what I am wanting. Anybody else experienced this? All of this is with the shifter in drive.

I know a good chip with a tune will help, but that is in the future

My 02 auto used to do the same thing but I noticed it depended on road conditions, warmer weather as opposed to cooler, ( air temp ). I put the K&N on awhile back and now it "chirps" every time.

Do you have the traction control off each time?

I have done it both ways on and off and it dosen't seem to make a difference. I think the traction control takes a couple of secongs to activate.

Mine gives a good chirp 60% of the time after having put on the CAI. Now that the weather's cooler it does it about 80% of the time and the rear end starts to slide around.:happyhapp

Yup. I love it when the rear end snaps except last night (which is why I asked about it) I was running by buddies 01 TA and when I went to change lanes it spun them when it shifted into second and i just about lost it the car started to fishtail:shocked: . My buddie was like WTF that was cool. I think the traction control saved my ass b/c I was not expecting it.

It is really weird, when it catches second it is a hard shift, like when we would put shift kits in before they all went electronic. but other times it is about a .25 second shift (maybe a little quicker), no slippage just a slower shift.

I noticed last night that when I manually shift, the engine revs up a little between shifts and then slams into second. It doesn’t rev like it is slipping just like the shift is slow.

Mine ('03 auto) has hit second so hard I had to pull out of the gas to keep from sliding into the curb. Its all stock too. 100%. However most of the time it won't break the tires free on the 1-2 shift, but does shift firmly at full throttle.

Hey StorkDork,
Was that just a K&N replacement filter of their FIPK. I gotta get something to replace my 30,000km factory filter.
