For anyone out there with the 6-speed auto, I'd like to know:

If you put the shifter into gear 2 and leave it there -

What happens when you stop & takeoff again - does it stay in 2nd or drop down to 1st?

If it drops down, does it then shift back up to 2nd & stay there?

Once in 2nd, if you redline the engine does it upshift to 3rd, or hit rev limiter & stay in 2nd?

Time for a little test drive. Thanks.

Not sure if there is a 2 option on the 6spd, but all other trannys work the same, so if there is an option it will be the same. When starting in 2 it only has 2nd gear, does not upshift, nor downshift, hope that helps.

That's what you would expect, & I hope that's what it does. But I've seen other cars with sequential shifters that up & down shift from the gear you initially selected.

If by sequential shift you mean auto/manual shift, the mustang does not have that. The auto/manual shift does do what you stated. If that made any sense.....

Sorry to confuse everyone, or belabor the point. I realize the 2011 Mustang does not have a sequential shifter for the auto trans - unfortunately. I assume the auto trans locks you in gears 1 or 2 or 3 when the shifter is in position 1 or 2 or 3. Just don't know for sure if that's really the case. For example, if you run it to redline in gear 2, what happens? Does it stay in gear 2 and hit a fuel or ignition cutoff, or does it actually upshift to save the engine?
