When installing axle backs I noticed a rattling noise. After inspection I found that the drivers side exhaust pipe (just forward of the axle back joint) was rubbing on what looks like some sort of sway bar that runs diagonally across the car behind the differential. The passenger side has plenty of clearance. Has anyone else had this issue? What did you do to correct? Is it normal for the exhaust pipe to be so close to this bar?

I know that bar makes it harder to install the drivers side muffler but mine is not touching nor does it ever hit the bar. Sounds like your mufflers may be moving around too much, check all 3 rubber hangers to make sure the mufflers are in them properly (I know when I was putting mine in it kept wanting to go in NEXT to the hole on the rubber hanger) It needs to be in the center hole

Loosen your clamp, and adjust your muffler in the rubber hanger mounts until you get proper clearance. Put your shims around your exhaust tips to center it in your valance cut outs, then tighten your clamp back down. Easy, 5 or 6 minutes max.

Thanks Ltngdrvr. Can someone tell me how much clearance I should have between the drivers side exhaust pipe and the panhard bar?
Also, which axleback system are you installing?

Borla Touring (new version).
Gotcha, I'm buying my axlebacks tomorrow so I figured I'd ask... still not sure what I'm going with, at this point I think it's ROUSH or FRPP.

Love the sound. Not too loud, but good growl. Zero drone. I am curious to see what kind of clearance others have between the panhard bar and exhaust though.

I just checked mine and have several inches of clearance. See picture (red stuff is muffler tape I put on under the clamp for extra tight seal)

Muffler Tape

I've heard/seen a few people highly recommend using muffler tape when installing after market axlebacks... I wasn't intending to do this so could anyone share some insight as to whether or not this is truly a recommendation or just a preference?

I'm sure muffler tape can't be much money, so I'm not worried about cost, just more so if I should do it or not.
