Barking into second

OK I have an automatic otherwise I would know I'm just shifting hard, But everytime I run a guy from a light I bark into second I was wondering if this was bad or maybe something going wrong. My car shifts at 5.5rpms as well if I'm flooring it but it always has so I don't think this is the reason. thanks for any help.

Mine does the same thing only because I have a shift kit installed and pretty bald tires. I like it shifting firm like that, better than it used to shift at high rpms with a sort of lopey soft shift. Don't know if you've done anything to your trans though.
I haven't but I think the guy before me put a shift kit in it cause the stock automatic v6 I drove shifted at like 4 when I was flooring it and my shifts at 5.5. And the previous owner liked to tune his cars as well.

no, it's a good positive shift at the correct time.

That's the way it's supposed to work! 5500 RPM is your peak horsepower point, it should shift to a point just below peak torque, hence the tire bark.

It's a perfect shift.

If it's shifting at 4,000 RPM, he's left a lot of power on the table.

It's an incorrect installation, or he's changed the rear gears, and didn't update his computer.

Either way, his tranny's not long for this world.
