Yesterday a friend and I installed a Taylor battery relocation kit. http://store.summitracing.com/defau...earchinresults=false&N=0&target=egnsearch.asp It took 3-4 hours, but it was well worth it IMO. It started out as I needed a new battery, the stocker was barely turning the car over. So I said screw it and thought it would be benificial for wieght transfer, and a certain cool factor, to trunk mount it. I also didn't want to spend big bucks on an Optima battery so I bought the biggest Wally Mart battery that would fit. Its the type that goes under the rear seat of certain cars. I did hook up the vents and route them to the outside to be safe. Well I'm not sure if it helped me last night at the track but I did pull three 2.0 short times on street tires. I also ran a tenth faster than I ever have before. It was below 50 degrees, but I would still like to think the extra weight in the trunk helped. Here's a few pics of the install, forgive me for the car being a bit dirty.

I see you got a Never Start battery. But do you have a kill switch mounted on the outside of the rear of the car. I have the exact same box mounted in the bed of my truck and NHRA rules say you must have a battery kill switch mounted in easy access at the rear of the vehicle. The bugged me about it and hassled me about it til i finally hooked it up. Plus hope you dont have charging issues. As long as you got good cable and what not you should be ok but you better hope your alternator is up to the task of pushing the juice back that far.

At this point I don't want a kill switch mounted on the back. The only racing I've done so far is on street legal fun night so it doesn't even get a tech inspection. The kit I used came with 1 gauge wire. If I have charging issues in the future I plan on swapping the original pullies back on.

Ive been thinking about relocating the battery to the trunk as well. Is the box attached to the carboard cover? (The cover that sits over the spare tire.)

No there is enough room to still take the spare in or out without hassle. It comes out about 3 inches from the spare cover, I did have to drop the tank to secure one of the threaded rods though.

Battery Kit

I did the exact same thing, except I turned my battery cross wise. The plates run from side to side the way you have yours, leading to bent plates with hard launches. With the battery turned side to side, the plates are front to back and cannot bend as easily. Was kind of tight, but still clear the tire. I will post pics tomorrow, as I need to update my profile.

David, have you ever ran at a track? If so post times, 1/8 and 1/4 if possible. Next year after my PI headswap I may spray a little too. I'll have to watch it to make sure every thing stays all lined up and doesn't bend.

Good though! I glad you posted that as I'm about to do this this winter.
Dollar...Looks great I'm planning to get the same one, I dont carry the spare anymore and I'll have to move my Bottle.

What do you guys think about putting the batter in the spare tire hole?

:dunce:
Well my times are nothing to write home about, as I run mostly 1/8 in the summer lately. Best times are 9.19 at 75 mph onBFG 255/55/16 drag radials with a 1.99 60 ft and no bottle. On the bottle with only a 75 shot are 8.65 at 82 with still a crappy 1.95 60 ft. In the quarter a Fun Ford Weekends true street I only managed a 13.9 at a decent 101 with a terrible 2.09 60 ft. Howerver that was with Falken 273/35/18 tires under Fun Ford Weekend rules and 102 temp outside. My car really is set up more for turns rather than straight. On street tires my freind who was watching closely said my tires were still slightly spinning at the 100ft mark and on the shifts. Gonna get slicks and just be done with it. :tongue

I think it would be better to mount the battery on the passenger side, you really want the weight over the rear passenger tire. I would put the battery in the same place I did and put the bottle in the tire well.

Battery location

You want it over the right rear. Torque picks up the right rear, and besides, my bottle is on the drivers side............................ :eyebulge:

Thats kind of what I thought, I do have a bag in the right rear spring but I realy want the weight on that side to. Time to move the bottle, the bummer is I wasn't planning ahead so I'll have to lengthen the wires for my bottle heater. I also have to put a cut off switch on it since my car sees a lot of track time.

battery switch

:winks
I mounted a Hella switch under the bumper, just the key sticks through. I only drilled a small hole down near the bottom. Piece of cake.
