BBK long tube headers

Hi,

I plan to buy BBK long tube headers with orr froad xpipe. I already have the flowmaster american thunder axleback?

First question, do I need other parts for installation to my stock piping?

Should I really go with ceramic instead of chrome. I don't mind if they change colors.

Also will I have clearance issue since my mustang is dropped about a inche and half.

If somebody as got a sound clip of bbk headers and xpipe with flowmaster american thunder, I would be glad to listen to it.

Let me know what are your toughts.

If its a daily driver go with stainless headers. I have ceramic on a weekend/ sunny day car that gets 3500 miles per year and have had no rust issues. I'm lowered an inch and have had no clearance issues but I'm careful.

Steeda has a very good tune for them too.
Two more things - you shouldn't need more parts but the install is not easy. It's worth paying a shop to do this part but if you have access to a lift and the right tools then maybe you can DIY.
My car is more of a week-end car. It's not my daily driver car.

I'll probably do it myself. I have all the tools and the help of the father of my girlfriend who is an excellent mecanic. Only thing I don't have access to is a lift. I have only some ramps.

Everyone is telling me to go with Kooks but I don't see why I should spend more cash.

I went with Kooks because they're 304 stainless (granted there are other options out there that are 304). My car is a daily driver and unfortunately is driven in the winter too. I wanted as high quality as I could possibly get to fend off any potential problems, granted the factory exhaust is T409 and it's not like it's rusting through in the winter left and right.

Also, you're definitely going to want to get access to a lift if you can. The job is VERY intense without one.

IMO, I would only go with SS304 with a ceramic coating. Headers are one thing you will most likely only do once due to it being a bit hard to access. Why not just do it right and having it so you don't have to ever remove it again?

Stainless steel is really not cheap. Is there a good benefits other than lower temperature and don't rust that I would see with ceramic or stainless steel.

Cermic dissipates heat better. For a daily driver though, it's really not going to make that big of a difference. It's a nice bonus but stainless steel is more than acceptable. I wouldn't go with anything aluminized. But again, I live in an area that gets salted.

304 > T409 for exhaust applications.

304 has a LOT of chromium which helps mainly with the stainless property. T409 has considerably less. Surprisingly, 304 has less chemical properties than T409.

I was going to get BBK and then I was sold on this package. I only paid an additional $120 to upgrade to the Ceramic coated option and the fit was PERFECT.:bigthumbsup

Didn't think of JBA. How was the fit? Might go with the hpipe, does it fit standard piping since I have only an axleback.

So it's between JBA and BBK.

It's a toss up. Most people would agree there's two levels of common long tube headers, the most "finest" being products from companies like American Racing Headers, Kooks, Bassani, Dynatech etc etc and then "entry" level headers like Pypes, JBA, or BBK. Frankly, any option you choose will probably fit your needs perfectly fine and you'll never look back. Between your options, I keep swaying towards BBK and I'm not sure why to be honest...

I think either one would be fine. I have the jbas on my car. They hug the body pretty good but do hang a tad low. I had to cut out about an inch of my catback due to the JBA mid pipe being long.

The JBA's are stainless and that is why I picked them over the BBK.

I think a lot of the shorty mids are a bit long because the last inch often reduces from 3" to 2.75" to fit the stock catback so when you couple to a 3"catback you cut the reduced section off.
