The Pertronix conversion is one of the best things I've done to my '66. It starts instantly, idles perfectly smooth, and revs to redline without a hint of a misfire. It took about 20 minutes to install.:thumbup:

Yes it is worth it as mentioned above, plus never having to do points again is good. Also having the reassurance that it will turn off your car before going past 5000rpm or whatever it is, is great. I felt a little better performance too

Adding the Flamethrower coil makes installation a bit more than 20 min as you have some rewiring to do. Go to the Pertronix website and read the installation instructions. Compare the I, II, and III to see exactly which you really want to accomplish. Yes, electronic ignition is better in some way's.

The base Pertronix will burn out if you accidently leave the key on.
I was surprised how QUICKLY they burn out. I was recently helping a friend troubleshoot his dual ignition V-12. He powered the electric fuel pumps for pressure testing for all of 5-10 minutes. Afterwards he had to buy TWO new Pertronix as we had fried both of them in that very $hort time. One died instantly; the other worked for about ~5 miles before stranding us fortunately in the middle of a relatively quiet residential street.
