I removed my clutch assist spring today after work and WOW what a difference.

The clutch pedal feels smoother all the way to the floor and back and I feel more direct and attached to the clutch rather than the somewhat spongy uncertainness that comes with the spring. Plus, no more head bouncing on that tricky 1-2 low rpm shift.

Downsides are the pedal is a bit heavier now, and some very light nvh comes through the pedal now but overall totally worth if for a more direct connection to the car.

Next mod is a transmission fluid swap and an MGW Race-Spec MT82 shifter for the v6 model if they ever get around to releasing it!

So where do I find how to do this on my 06GT?
I watched this video for the 2011-2014: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iy7MOEuYVj4

You might be able to find a similar video, and might even be able to follow that video if the clutch pedal design is the same. I'm 6 foot 4 so I had to fight my way under the dash but once I got under there a pair of needle-nose vice grip pliers and you're good to go. It was a good excuse for me to spend money at autozone as I only had a regular set of vice grip pliers and they didn't fit the first try. :)

Am I the only one that has zero problems with the stock clutch? It's already pretty heavy and I can feel every little bit of contact
I have had mine since late 2010 (its a 2011 GT Brembo) and no complaints...

Some people are just a bit picky-er I think...

Take it out and I bet you'll change your mind.
+1

Much smoother and more linear pressure without the spring. Try it...you'll like it.

It has nothing to do with the clutch itself. When the clutch pedal is depressed, the spring actually helps hold the pedal to the floor. Which is why the clutch feels so light in the first place. But it also gives the pedal a goofy "cam-over" feeling as the spring rocks back and forth every time you depress and release the pedal. I found that feeling to be quite annoying and made it harder to drive the car smoothly.

Go out to your car and slowly depress and release the clutch pedal several times and see if you can feel the point when the effort required to move the pedal changes. Then remove the spring and feel how much more consistent the pedal feels through its entire travel. The pedal will be a bit stiffer but the only thing you'll be feeling is the clutch itself and not the clutch assist spring. The spring is easily reinstalled but mine went in the garbage after the first time I drove the car without it.

How does the clutch spring back then? I'm kind of afraid to remove it. what's it's purpose?
The clutch will actually spring back with more force because the helper spring which holds it back has been removed. Don't get me wrong, it is not a lot more force but you will notice it and as Blazin72 said, the pressure on your foot is much more consistent throughout the travel.

For sure on the trash thing, I don't get why this POS spring was included in the first place other than to appease someone who cant hold a clutch in. If you're buying a manual mustang but can't manage a damn clutch dont buy a manual.

It's just something there to help make the car appeal to people who want a light clutch feel like they might find in a smaller car. It's the same reason the car has super soft rubber bushings in the suspension and on the shifter bracket and soft, floppy suspensions. Since most people don't drive their car to the point that these items matter, Ford can make the car appeal to a wider range of buyers.

At least the spring is easy to remove and it doesn't cost anything.
