Best exhaust system for my 1966 Mustang 289 V8?

My '66 which I bought last month has a new set of mufflers. I think they're "Cherry Bombs" but I'm not sure. They're about 3-1/2" in diameter and maybe 16" or 18" long. It has the original cast iron exhaust manifolds. The sound is pretty nice but I'm wondering if it's worth it to put headers on and change the mufflers. The car is a 289, 4bbl, automatic. Any suggestions?:headscratch:

if you are looking for a little more h.p. then yes. but if you like the way it sounds and are happy with the power you have , than don't bother. :bigthumbsup
just put shorty headers and 2.5 in exhuast with turbo mufflers on my 66 289 and it is definitely more aggresive sounding...but i also had cherry bomb glasspacks before the change over and the new tone is not very much louder believe it or not
