Best way to roll fenderlips 1966 Mustang vert

3708 Views 7 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  The Greek
I have put 17" wheels with 245/45/17 on my 66 vert and need some room in the wheel well. What is the best/easiest way to do it. I really dont want to mess up my paint. I saw the eastwood lip roller that looks pretty easy to use, anyone have any experience with that tool? does autozone or advanced auto rent any tools like that? thanks for the help!

Back in the day we used to take a baseball bat and find the spot on the bat of the correct diameter to fit between tire and fender lip with slight pressure. Place it at rear of tire and have someone drive very slowly forward while you guide the bat as it rolls between tire and lip. This may be repeated. There are no guarantees with this method, but it used to work for us.
I second the bat method,it's cheap and pretty easy! but it may crack your paint on the inner lip of your fender. I had to do the same for my 225/60/17. let me know if you get the 245's to fit
That's what I like to see...some good old fashioned "******* engineering"! God I love the USA!
I thought about the bat thing and talked myself out of it. Then, I did it myself using all my cool metal working tools. Bad idea . . . Then I had to pay my body guy to do it right. I hope someone learns something from my mistake. Try the bat if you want to DIY.
Find someone with this Eastwood Fender Roller Tool or catch one on ebay.
I recall reading an article in "Mustang Monthly" or "Mustangs and Fords" where they explain how to properly roll the fender lips and they of all things used a baseball bat (sometimes simpler is better).
