I have a 89 Stang, with the usual 4 lug drum brakes in the rear.... Well I was going to rotate my rear tires so I dont burn up the passenger side rear to quick.... well, on the second lug, I broke the lug and stud off completly!

I was just woundering if it is possible to driveit safely on three studs for a week untill I have the time and money to repair it?

Yeah it would be safe. Not 100% but as long as you dont get on it and thrash it you should be fine. My brothers 79 did the same thing and he drove around with 3 lug nuts for about 2 weeks. Just make sure the other 3 are tightened down properly.

I don't know about tightened RIGHT, but someone held the air wrench on them WAYYY to long! I figure that's why the one broke!

I've driven for a while with missing/broken studs on 5 lug wheels before.... I just wasn't to sure about the 4 lug wheels though.

Thanks for the help!

It should be fine as long as you dont drive on it for a prolonged lperiod of time. I would not drive on it more than a week if it were me. Kind of like a donut tire. Drive on it long enough to get the other one fixed.

That reminds me of a guy at my school.. Brand new Echo, with three temp tires..... I never did figure out how he had enough money for a band new car, albeit cheap, and not enough for three used tires which would have been all of $60

You can knock the broken one out...And replace it with a new one...A hammer and small chisel will do the trick..

Okay Pita look at the first thread, stating if he can drive on it for a week UNTIL he could fix it HIMSELF. He was simply asking if he could drive the car with only 3 out of 4 studs holding the tire on. So before you go telling people to not listen to those who have actually done and learned through experience make sure you are 100% clear about what was asked.

Yes it needs to be fixed ASAP, but if it is his daily drivier and only means of transporation kind of hard to call into work to say that I have to fix my car. Makes one look unreliable. Thats exactly why I told him to baby it and not hammer it since it is on the rear wheel.

And lets see he stated " until i have the TIME and MONEY to fix it" SO there goes your ASAP theory out the window along with the theory of having someone else fix it.

Well she isn't operating anymore :( There was semi heavy fog today so I turned on my park lights, and lets just say when I got to school, I forgot to turn them off :(

I had a friend take me to my house to get a battery out of my 4X4, but it still wouldn't start up, and there was a ticking noise, which said friend commented that it was comming from the solinoid, so I went and got another, but yet the same ticking sound.... I'm hoping both batterys are dead.... And it's not the starter (Which I don't think it should be?) :(

Oh yea, I just sold a rifle.... How much does a Stud and a serpintine belt cost in your area (just woundering, i've never purchased either)?

The wheel stud I bought a year ago cost me a couple bucks, the serpentine belt -- I am not sure how much i spent on that. Sorry, also sorry to here your car isnt working at the moment.
The stud isnt hard to replace, a hammer and a punch and you can get the broken one out. Installing the new one is just the reverse.

Good luck, let us know how it goes.
