hey, all. I'm new here and I'm here to discuss my build. its salvaged title 4.0 v6 mustang. I bought it back in June 2024 with a pare non titled parts car with motor already pulled. in total it was $1400. I swapped the dashes and bumpers. my car still needs some TLC but its good enough right now. I have searched and looked into options for a turbos and superchargers. I found two options so far, the common Vortech supercharger with 4 different options from 290hp to 330hp. $4200-$7300. yeah, that's a lot and an adapter kit for an Eaton m90 supercharger from a thunderbird. $2199 and with all the electrical parts to tune it properly from moddboxx in total that's roughly $4000-$4300. they have pulleys to help produce from 262 hp to 331hp. still a lot to hp to dollar ratio but hey, this is a fun project, and I don't mind it, it's just for fun. I also contacted two shops that specialize in the v6s. tom Morana, located in Canada and super six motorsports, located Georgia, United Staes they both have forged internals, cams, port polish options, head bolts, gaskets and extras. they gentleman at super six motorsports claim our 4.0 blocks can handle 700 hp with forged internals and built heads, cams, port and polish. the whole nine yards ya know. I'm aiming for 370 hp. serval have claimed its safe spot, can anyone confirm the 4.0 will handle it reliably running smooth and crisp. I always like to hear it one on one and dyno sheets will help. so, for my build I'm looking into moddboxx kit with Eaton m90, tom Morana cams, Arp bolts. valve springs, bbk headers, magna flow exhaust, and a bbk 72mm throttle body. the moddboxx comes with the stuff to tune it without a dyno. (Pre tunned I believe. as for my differential its getting a 3.73 gear rato and LSD and one-piece driveshaft with bmr kit for handling.

any help/tips are welcome. I don't mind criticism. I know it's not a practical build but it's just for fun and I love the car

welcome to the forum

I'm not sure if anyone active on here right now, will have direct answers to those questions

there has been some discussion of supercharging that V6 in the past, though not a lot because it is not a common modification -- while waiting for someone else to chime in, try the "search" tool (top center) and make sure you search in the right sub-forum(s) - (try the regular S197 V6 sub-forum also)

My advice...

...... [and please, please imagine me whispering in the kindest & softest & most gentle tone of voice possible]

...............................is to have thick stacks of hundred dollar bills ready to light on fire. Yours is one ambitious (to say the least) expensive project idea ........

Anything is possible. Life, liberty, pursuit of happiness.

My two cents,
AE

I don't know how far you can push the stock short block. I have serious doubts an M90 is going to get a 4.0 to 370 HP though. Ford had that blower pushing 12 PSI (so 82% above atmospheric pressure) to give the 3.8 a 50% power bump from 140 to 210 HP. Even with the help of cams, TB and headers, you're going to be relying on boost for significantly more than a 50% increase. I'm fairly confident you'll need a larger and more efficient compressor to get there.
Vortech claims 330 for their intercooled setup. Maybe the addition of cams and headers gets it to 370 and if not, a pulley swap would put you over the top. A properly selected turbo would certainly be capable as well, but again, I don't know if something in the bottom end is likely to go kaboom first.

understandable. that's what claimed from said websites and guys who built there v6s mildly on forums and dynoed 340-370. tom morana and supersix claims the stock block and crank can handle up to 700 its the pistons, rods, heads, etc that needs modifying to push it to that much. for my application I'm just looking for 340-370 hp car since others so that much work doesn't seem to be needed. being guys have achived that much power from a 4.0 v6. its made me consider getting a 3.8 firebird cause there fairly affordable to push power out of and can handle 550 to 650. these engines juse seem under rated the buick 3800 having lots more aftermarket support
