I bought a 1969 Mustang with a C4 transmission. The speedometer is not even close to accurate. I need to replace the plastic gear, how do I determine which gear is the right one? The gear I have is gray, it's not damaged but it's apparently not the correct one. I think the transmission is an 1980's vintage. Is it a parts house item or dealer item? The transmission shifts fine and don't slip. :D

Go to CJ pony parts website. They have many speedomoeter gears for the C4. They give a fomrula in the catalog to calcuate which one you need.

They fit many C4's, C6's, and AOD type automatic transmission.

You need the "right hand" rotation type gear also known as the "Type 3"
