Cabin air filter

Any consensus as to how often to change the cabin air filter in our cars? I just took our SUV in for servicing and they charged $100 to change the cabin air filter! ($50 for the filter $50 for the 1/2 hour of labor-nonsense!)
I just looked up the procedure to change our cabin air filter:

Pretty easy. Not sure what our filter costs but it sure aint $50.

Pretty sure it's under $25 at autozone and like the video shows, it's pretty much a 2 minute job.
I change mine every year in the spring. $16 at Walmart. 2 minutes to change it.

I change mine once a year, less then $20 at Advanced Auto and less then 5 minute job
In my ‘12 V6 and ‘14 GT the cabin & air box filters get changed around every 6 months or 6,000 miles due to the dusty desert conditions, especially from the unavoidable dust devils. I use the Motorcraft filters, FP-53 for the cabin filter and FA-1897 for the airbox and order them online from Rock Auto parts. My last order broke down like this:

FP-53 @ $11.47 (4 each)
FA-1897 @ $11.61 (4 each)
Shipping @ $8.98
Total: $101.30

yeah, $100 is highway robbery smh, I do mine yearly, as said it's a 5 minute job
Thanks for this thead; I've always wondered about this. At least I now know my 2012 has one and my 2003 does not.
I put a piece of white duct tape near my air filter and near the cabin filter housing stating the date and mileage changed so Ford Service doesn't do it themselves while performing waranty work.
I've done it once or twice now w/ 44k miles on the 'stang. One caveat before you change it on your own. The crappy plastic screw fasteners are a PITFA to remove and they're real flimsy. if they don't screw down the cowl securely to the metal flange on the firewall you'll get a noticeable vibration at highway speeds. Don't ask me how I know this. facepalm2.gif

It took me a week or two to figure it out. Get some stronger replacements from an auto parts store or use some nylon thumb screws or something instead of the stock POSs. YMMV.

Also, don't drop them in your engine bay, as i just did tonight. PITA trying to find them behind the block

$100 to replace the filter??? I understand making a buck and $50 I can understand. I wonder (would guess yes) if they also charged extra for "shop/disposal fees". Stuff like this gives some dealers bad reps.

Mud will look at his in Spring for the 1st time in 3yrs/19K miles......

edit: Eats, cool looking rims!
