CAI,3.73 gears, and tune for a 2005 Mustang GT

what kind of power gains can i see from a CAI,3.73 gears, and a tune?
I'm already set on getting the 3.73's but i don't know anyone that has them. I'd like to know what kind of difference they would make. FYI the tune would be using an SCT Livewire tuner.

30 hp or so, the gears dont give you power per say they just help you accelerate faster but your top speed is then lowered but your not going to be going over 140 anyways.

CAI and tune are definetly worth the money on a GT and my dad just put 4.10s in his car... i cant say i feel a huge difference to be honest but i dunno its never been the same since he got it dyno tuned, i liked his canned tunes better to be honest :headscratch:
Check my mod list ,seems to be about what you are talking about.I am more than happy with the times i ran for the limited amount spent and a limited amount of traction also!.( car went 14.10 stock).Only the off road x is new since track run.
yea i don't ever really plan on going that fast but a little more acceleration would be nice. thanks for the help. blk281gt your mods sound a lot like what i plan on doing in the future. i think after these mods im going to start working on suspension. now i just gotta find out how much it will cost. there is a mustang shop in my town called wildhorse racing and the guy who owns it does really good work. im going to go talk to him about pricing today.
$1,500 should be a good ballpark price for you. Anything more and would start shopping.Cai, gears, axlebacks, mid pipe.
I'd say 20-25 hp to the wheels. The gears actually will cost a percent or two in RWHP.
These are the mods I have. FRPP 3:73 gears, BBK CAI, and custom tune. Tuner is X3 livewire.

Before gears and tune 1/4 14.7 (slow I know)

After gears and tune 1/4 13.7

And I have had the car above 145 mph. The tune also adjusted the speedo for the new gears.

So the car can go over 140 mph.
the 3.73 gears will NOT slow your car down...........i know some guys with blowers and 3.73s that can reach over 170...........you know how when you put your car in 5th with stock gears it kind of "bogs" because it is the overdrive?? the 3.73s will eliminate that and you can reach top speed faster. if you do all of these mods at the same time it will feel like a completely different car.

They spin up the driveshaft faster but they will reduce the theoretical top-end speed by about 5% in addition to the small loss of wheel horsepower. But the new gear ratio will make it feel faster off the line.

Since you already have 3.55 gears, the change to 3.73's will be barely noticeable! There is only a 5% difference between these ratios. If you want a significant change you should go to 4.10's. The 3.73's are a good choice for the guys with autos or a 2007+ manual with 3.31's.
well if you consider, the stock program limits speeds way lower than what the car can actually do...............so if you stick with the 140 limiter,(i think thats the stock speed) 3.73s have no problem getting there, and they get there ALOT faster than 3.31s lol........yea, if you are unlimited, the new gear will make you go slower, but for a stock or fairly stock car, you will lose no top speed.
is it not worth it to go from 3.55 to 3.73's? I want a set of 3.73's eventually, will it help any or not be worth the time?

for me, 4.10's are too steep, and 3.90's I cant find a good enough company that I trust to make them. 3.73's seem more conservative for highway driving, but slightly better acceleration. Is that right?
what are the stock gears for the 06 GT? 3.55? I was thinking of going to 3.73 also but if they are already 3.55 then I won't bother.
how hard is it to install new gears?

3.31 is stock for auto 05-06
3.55 is tock for manual 05-06
3.31 is stock for all 07-08
Don't do it yourself! Have a good mechanic that you trust do it.
3.31 is stock if you didn't get the 3.55 option
Got the car used so not sure if the previous owner got the 3.55 option or not. Is there a quick way to check? I'm new to modding so I'm trying to learn as I go here.:headscratch:

Sorry I messed up. If you have an auto it's 3.31 otherwise for manual it's 3.55.
Alright, that makes more sense, I figured I had 3.31 from the feel of it but wasn't sure after I heard everyone talk about 3.55 with their GTs. Thanks for the help, I'll give you a good rating!:bigthumbsup

I was in the same boat with my bought-used '07 GT. There's a code on the driver's side door that has a whole bunch of stuff in it, and two characters are either CC (3.55) or CG (3.11). I may have those swapped, though. You might search this subforum, it's where I found the info.
